I have sanded down the hull to a point I am happy with. I’ve not sanded it completely smooth. I think I’ve done it enough to leave a hint of hull plating once there is paint on.
If you do the current scheme will you add the torpedo bulges? I’ve seen it in Galveston and thought of doing it myself. They shouldn’t be too hard.
According to the USS Texas foundation, it was a cost saving decision. No one will see the lower hull and apparently the red anti-fouling paint was not readily available.
I did the same with Revell Massachusetts as a museum with the waterline painted much lower than in service and a bunch of civilian visitors aboard too.
Its been slow going on Texas. My company deemed me superfluous to requirements and let me go at the end of October. Since then, trying to get another job has been my top priority.
That being said, I have made some progress and we have reached the point where its time to throw down some paint.
I am pretty sure I am going to paint her as she currently sits so a fully black bottom. I just need to do a little bit more research on what colour her deck is/will be.
