This one is likely used post inspection - a tri-drive, Freightliner, rail runner, pulling a gondola, with a backhoe attached in back:

This would be an interesting rig to make a model of! Unhappily for me, this area is not accessible, as just outside of view are tall fences, so I couldn’t get a pic of the whole set up. Interesting anyway -

Cheers

Woo-Hoo!
RailRovers
Standard gauge and the peculiar narrow gauge with chain drive.
They should have given the standard gauge RailRover fender extensions
 :+1:

Network Rail is helping keep train services in Devon running reliably this autumn by reducing the number of leaves on the railway tracks with the help of a specially-adapted 4x4 vehicle which can travel on rails and on the road. :

I posted this one in another thread but I guess I can post it here as well

It’s a weed sprayer train run by RailMax to control weeds and bushes along the railway track

The nice thing about these vehicles for us railroad modelers is that we can take any old vehicle and make a rail inspection vehicle out of it. You know the ones - with the wheels missing that you planned on using in a junkyard dio someday…

The leaf remover Rover is of interest to me, the “Sand Rover” as they call it. We have major leaf problems this time of year as many railroads do but we use a few different types of trains to do it.

I was on one like this yesterday minus the tank car. It consists of two old M1/M3 passenger cars stripped down with some kind of laser apparatus inside with two technicians, and an MP15AC engine on each end. Here’s a pic of the unit between the wheels that contains the laser. It’s supposed to clean off the leaf residue from the tracks.
