Vietnam 60

A number of examples come to mind but only one side might have been in Vietnam and not both that I recall.
For example

Ryan i was thinking Vietnam and more modern wars so the Sheridan and M113 would work for my long term diorama.

Yeah, that did happen but not as sexy of an article. I recall hearing about family members flying the same exact plane, verified by logbook book serial numbers.

I’ll be in with one of two M274 Mules I have. Glencoe’s 1/15th scale or Dragon’s 1/35th scale.

Change of mind: M51A2 from AFV Club that I preordered is indefinitely scheduled to the future. I have the new M107 and my soft spot for camo schemes (one of many spots) is luring me to this pic:

I just can’t sort out the markings! Was this camo typical of any particular artillery formations?
Thanks all

Markings on the side hull above the second to last road wheel are probably “US ARMY” on top and the serial number below. The markings at the end of the barrel are most likely the gun’s “name.”

I never had the opportunity to serve with a 175mm unit (I was post-Vietnam) but did do Battalion FDC for the 8" M110A1. Ours were the MERDC camo - woodland with the smaller “sand” colored squiggles.

This is the first time I’ve seen this camo scheme - black, brown/green(?), and sand. This is certainly unique to me, but again, I was an 80’s and on Artilleryman. I like this and if I ever get around to getting another 175mm howitzer, this camo would look good against all the others I’d have displayed.

EDIT: I went digging around the net trying to find this pattern or one similar for US vehicles…I wonder if this isn’t just a unit’s heavily modified version of MERDC?

Here’s another view

According to the caption this picture and the other one were taken in South Korea…Sounds plausible judging by the warning signs in the foreground…

Larger version of the other view

One can notice a M135 6x6 truck on the right…

Nice picture Frenchy!

I dug around some more and ran across this:

MERDC scheme Desert, Gray.

Makes sense, but that 175 is showing a LOT more black!

Those M60A1s are Marine tanks, over at Pendleton.

The 175 is overall dark OD with what I assume is pale yellow. Kind of giving it a Tiger-like color scheme.

If you look at the picture that Steo77 originally posted, there are clearly three colors on the barrel. That third color doesn’t seem to translate to the other side of the barrel (in the close-up view).

The trucks in the background appear to have a similar camo scheme…

It seems that there’s an urge to get this party started. Very well, this campaign is now active.

God, I love the smell of napalm in the morning!

The M113 and the M577 would fill the cross generational aspect also.
