Vietnam 60

I will probably have something, whatever it is it will be Marine operated. Current leading options are 1/35 M151, M48A3 either with 3D parts from James. Andy’s 1/16 M113 coming in Sept. I also have a pile of 1/72-1/32-35 jets and helos to choose from.

Thanks. I am trying to find an AFV Club M51 gunshield w/ cover somewhere.

I built the Skybow kit (AFV Club bought up their molds when Skybow went Tango Uniform. ) It had the mantel cover with it. Also the small exhaust for the heater/ APU? I believe AFV club released it as an after market item. Check Evilbay or, maybe someone here has one. (Anybody? Anybody?"

Modeling ADHD sets in. Adding one more to the bench. Seems I can never have just ONE in the works.

Glencoe’s M274 Mechanical Mule in 1/15th scale.

A lot of the parts were off the trees, but it looks like everything is there. Oooooh, flash too.

Step one is the M40 106 mm recoilless rifle. The main gun is a two-parter, so I started at breech end and slowly glued the halves together doing my best to keep things aligned. I want to say it looks pretty decent (being straight) right now. The muzzle is molded over, so I’ll need to pull out a drill and bore a hole for that. Perfect Plastic Putty was used to fill in a couple of sink marks.

And here we are.

Let the puttering begin. :smirk:

Welcome to the ADHD-club for modellers!
Right now I have 7 in front of me, just while painting! Plus at least a dozen kits in various stages of building or pre-painting.
And I haven’t even started the Vietnam-campaign yet. Or the figurepainting one. Or the unfinished business one. Jumped off of the Sci-fi-campaign. Oh, and I have an m113-groupbuild on another forum.

Aloha All,

Some nice projects under way here.

My attempt will be to somewhat duplicate the scene in the photo below. Apparently this was during the Tet Offensive in Saigon. The Vietnam Cong used the car for transport and the US, presumably this MP and his buddies, shot up the car and the VC.

I hope to use screen protector glass for the shot up windshield. Looking forward to working with that.

How did I miss this campaign?!? I’m in pending the completion of my Verlinden RTO for the “Great Ones” campaign.

I’m very much looking forward to watching this one pan out. Love the old Citroens. Definitely a cool concept/project.

Started cleaning up/assembling parts from the next step. Regarding the wheels/tires, one half has a locating “notch” but the other half has nothing to match. I did pay attention to the alignment of the treads though. Cudos to me as had I not done that, the tires would immediately have been seen to be wrong. Whew.

The triangle shaped metal things are scrapers for round items. Totally worth the few bucks! Before you ask, I don’t recall where I got them - eBay maybe?

The frame has been assembled and primed, along with the wheels and some of the linkage.

These are the tools I mentioned before. They’re the same on both sides, but with different radii and widths for the handles.

Mike,
Thanks for the kind words. It will be something different for me.

I’m also liking your mule. Always love a small platform with a big rifle.

I chose Mig’s Post War OD for the Mule as I didn’t have any of the darker Marine Green.

The majority of the parts are now painted with the exception of some of the add on parts.

Detail painting will follow - tires (AK’s “paint pens” will arrive today :star_struck: ).

The puttering has begun. I have to keep my eye on the finish line as it is only 8 months out.
Got the lower hull sides assembled.

I added the belly armor and put some scratch marks on it from bellying out on the ground.

Next the road wheel arms were installed. I am leaving the idler wheel arm off till later.

Installed the upper hull rear plate and drivers compartment.

Started drilling about a thousand holes in the upper turret.

I’ve puttered myself out so time for my nap.

Just got the M107 started:

The issue is that I’m slightly messed up with info: I am surely not so expert in deep details so if the three colour scheme of the pic is related to South Korea I have to presume it is out of scope in this group building!?
Or can it relate to Vietnam somehow?
I mean if certain operations in Cambodia, as an example, are part of the Vietnam warfare, can anyone tell me the M107s of the pics may be historically linked or not?
Thanks for helping, it’s a superbusy period for me and time for research is reduced to the bone…

My AK Real Colors Markers showed up yesterday. I had to give the Rubber Black a shot.

I’m pretty impressed (thank goodness for Inderal keeping my hands reasonably steady!) with how well the paint goes on, the fine point of the “brush,” and how quick it dries. By the time the third tire was done, the first was dry. Fine point to get up against the rim and the wider part along the side to do the tire’s side walls.

I don’t plan to paint the entire tire with the marker. This was more to see how well it worked. I have some other acrylic “Tire/Rubber Black” paint that I’ll use for the majority of the tire. On the inner side of the rim/tire, I’ll just use the fine point to get around the rim and then a hairy-stick to paint the rest.

Yeah, I’m pleased with the purchase. Individual pens are rather inexpensive, the three (or four?) color sets are too. The whole set, in the long run, it’s much cheaper but on the flip side, there are colors I probably will rarely, if ever, use. FWIW.

Looks great. I’ve seen these around the last week or so and wondered if it was just another gimmick. Glad to know they work. Might pick a couple up and try them myself.
Do they have a chisel or rounded point top?
