Panzer Operations by General Erhard Raus

I first read this about 20 years ago and just finished it again. It reminds me of the old Wide World of Sports introduction, From the Thrill of Victory to the Agony of Defeat.

I am reading Cross Creek. I have visited the author’s home and have stayed at her beach house. The story is about her time living in an orange grove at Cross Creek Florida. Cross Creek is only a couple of miles from where my mother grew up and my grandparents lived. I know of all the locations she mentioned, and her stories were from the time my mother was growing up. Reading the book explains much about the conditions mom lived in growing up and the life my grandparents lived. The time of writing was before the civil rights movement so in reading the book you can get a feeling of the way things were. Poverty seemed to be the norm at the time.

Finished this. Was really looking forward to reading about a M46 platoon leader in Korea. Turns out not much happens. It takes place over about a week where his tanks are used as artillery. The most interesting thing to me was how when sustained firing in the rain the barrel would heat up and turn the rain into steam that would obscure the gunners sight. Recommended for die hard tankers.

My local library carries several on the old-ish Osprey Modelling series of book, and I’m just starting this one.

Finished this. Fascinating story of the Oklahoma and Indian territory after the Civil War when it was the real wild, wild west. Evan though it was written in 1957(and it shows) it still is a good story of the only law in the area, Judge Parker of Fort Smith. Recommended for old west afficiandos.

I have put off reading this thinking it was some off the wall thing. However, once I started reading, i was back in the SWA.

The HBO mini-series they made from this is pretty good too.

Finished this. Thumbnail sketches of U.S. Army soldiers in Germany during the Cold War. Not very well written and the stories become repetitious. The first book he wrote was about his deployment and was much more interesting. Not recommended.
