Finished this. Diary of a Confederate soldier during the invasion of New Mexico and Arizona during the Civil War. Interesting at times on a little known campaign but a little tedious. The copious footnotes supply factual information on what the author is writing about, but they destroy the flow of the narrative. It’s funny his complaints are those universal gripes of soldiers: food, lack of equipment and incompetent leaders. Recommended for hard core Civil War buffs.

I finished “Between Two Fires” and am now halfway through “No Country For Old Men”, one of a 3 pack from McCarthy.

Just started reading Road to Surrender: Three Men and the Countdown to the End of World War II by Evan Thomas.

It’s a pretty in depth look at the decisions that lead to the dropping of the atomic bombs. So far it’s been interesting.

I found that the film version of “No Country” was one of those rare cases where it was better than the book.

Reading this and learning about the great game! Wayne

I’m pretty close to that opinion also. If the movie would have had the parts they dropped it would have been good. It was a bit weird reading it and right away seeing the actors.

Ian Kershaws book Hitler 1938-1945 Nemesis. It is a considerable work with lots of detail so far - most of it scary when transposed to the thinking of more modern dictators , naming no names of course…

I read the book “Thunder Gods” and it is about the concept design and use of the Ohka flying bomb.

Great book if historical material is something you like. This has to be just about the most unlucky military program I know about. What could go wrong did. The turn and twists of events in 1945 conspired to doom this program to failure. Very good read. Told by people who were there and participated. It reminds me of someone who is trying to climb a mountain that keeps having landslides. It’s the last year of the war, what could go wrong?
