What did you do in your modeling workshop today?

Primed three SAS Willys.

It is very handy. I was gifted one by a friend and I have used it extensively over the year5s; a quick bath in 91% Isopropyl and it’s like new.

A must in anyone’s workbench.

I’ve got two sets and they’re filthy  Never thought of cleaning them

As long as they still work :man_shrugging:

I don’t mean to discredit the Bearcat, it’s just that it was deployed too late in the PTO to engage in combat and when the Korean war broke out it was too outdated to participate in that campaign. The plane itself was a favorite for those who flew it unfortunately it just never had the opportunity in US service to prove itself which I think is a shame.

I see your point Terry. The jet age put paid to some beautiful and by then highly advanced prop designs.

Add this to the modeling area.

Extra points if you know what all this writing means.

I think that it’s 120 mm across. Idk, though, kinda vague.

It appears to be a practice cartridge (inert) for a 120mm gun (TP is target practice).

The DS-T is a discarding sabot tracer; the FS I think is fin-stabilized so the round will have little fins.

UN 0328 I assume is a NATO code.
The long string starting with 1315- perhaps the serial number for this particular unit?

M865 is the U.S. designation for this round I’m guessing and it weighs 63.2 pounds (case included for transport purposes?)

It is a NATO Stock Number (NSN) -01 indicates that it was first adapted in the US.

Wasn’t sure about that one; NATO didn’t exist when the armor I build was fielded.

M865: 120mm M865 Target Practice, Cone Stabilized, Discarding Sabot-Tracer
No idea about the other markings.
Its called the PA-116 or 117 storage container.

TARGET, PRACTICE, CONE STABILIZED, DISCARDING SABOT-TRACER, CANNON M256

UN0328 - Shipping/ Transport Code used for IATA and ICAO.

Breakdown of NSN (NATO Stock Code)
1315 - Class Group (1315- Ammunition Code)
01 - Country Code (00 and 01 are US designated)
288-5545 - National Item Identification Number (Country originated)
C785 - US Ammunition Code

Batch Lot No is painted over.

Do I win a prize?

BTW I did 30 years in CAF Logistics so NSN’s were my bag (I’ve built a few for the catalogue over my years).

My progress on this M4 Sherman turret over the past two days:

I also added this detail on the MG mount based on up-close photos of the cupola:
