Decided to check my bottle of Testors Olive Green and it seemed to be dried out. I had last used it to paint the wheels on the Wiesel MK20A1. I decided to paint the lower hull in Tamiya XF-58 Olive Green. It’s just the first coat.
I decided to sand the complete skin of the kit, and later use only Aquarell technique for the color = multiple different washings , to keep the original three colors of Matchbox kits.
Got the rest of the MEP-804 together, left the wheels off until I’ve got paint on. The precise fit of the genset into the frame impressed me and once I’d established where the toolbox lives, it all came together nicely.
Base coat of Tamiya XF89 and will start on the NATO tritone and wheels tomorrow.
Looking good. I have the MEP-804 trailer in the stash as well.
Thanks Gino. One recommendation for the build; install the rear outriggers before you position the fenders.
I’ll finish this off then fit the truck’s fender supports and cable, when they arrive.
I got the trailer built and got some tritone on. The two hook up quite nicely, despite my earlier concerns about the dump box overhanging at the back. Will finish off the paint and clear coat later in the week, then its decals and light weathering.
Very nice. Contrasting camouflage looks great.
Thanks Al, I still need to do a few things to it. Including those fender-braces and the cable.
Without downloading the tech manual, I wish I could work out what the trailer braking deal was.
Bump-stop manual, hydraulic or air (cant see that)?
Of course, anybody who’s been around such a rig could chip in……….
The trailer has air brakes. There should be two hoses coming out from under the frame on each side about halfway down the tongue that goes forward to the truck and hooks up to the rear gladhands (red and blue gladhands on them below). There is also a 3rd cable that goes forward and connects the lights (on top of the tongue below).
Really nice work. Looks great, it could really tell a story.
Thanks Gino, as always you are The Oracle. The truck’s gladhands would be rotated to the horizontal position for connection, right?
Yes, they would be.
Beautiful build. Do you have the link to where I can get one of the gen trailers it would fit amazing in my collection?
Thanks for the kind words,
Sorry its just an image.
Scott at Wanamaker is a great guy. He imports these and a bunch of other Cold War kits from HobbyLink in Vietnam.
Some clear color from the rattle can and some decals, than all finished with mat clear .
I keep the original color of the Matchbox Kit , green on top and Brown underside, wanna ad some small FX and washing next week .
Over the course of the past week, I glued together accessories for the base of my “Sci-Fi Campaign X” figure. The accessories are a mini-drone launch box and three landmines.
I still need to do the washes, drybrusing, inking, and any possible decals if I decide to add decals.
