What did you do in your modeling workshop today?

AND It’s Almost Done

Almost Finished, I decided to use some leftover decals instead of the ones provided with the kit. Sort of my own personal identification, I call her 8 Ball-II,

I like it. Is there a story behind why it has the national isignia on upside down?

Progress on the Trumpeter BR 52. There are a lot of parts to this kit; it took a couple of days just to clean up everything after cutting the sprues. Fortunately you can build many parts as subassemblies so while some things are drying you can assemble others to have ready to go.

The boiler is just sitting on the frame as the cab is supposed to be attached first and I need to paint the interior prior to doing that. Fit is not too bad for a 2005 Trumpeter kit but it does want a little filler here and there.

I had that pointed out to me on many of my builds,my problem was that I didnt even realize there was an up or down,so by percentages half my builds were right, the others werent.Your Corsair still looks great.

It happens. I see it both ways on the hood of military vehicles and to this day I still have to think about which way it should go.

That is a little known “Top Secrect” ploy devised by USNPACCOM to confuse the Nipponese fighter pilots.

Thanks. Normally I don’t usually build WW-2 Models, so I’m not that familiar with the markings, though I should have paid better attention. Thank you for being so kind.

Silly Me. I’m not used to working with WW-2 Markings, so even though I had the instruction sheet in front of me. I didn’t even notice that thier was something amiss with the decal. And now it’s set, so I can’t get it to come loose. :unamused:

I like that, Cajun!

FWIW - I believe the US decided in WW2 to only place one national insignia on the wing because it psychologically made centering the enemy fighters gun sights a hair more challenging or a hair slower due to asymmetric marking.

I’ve often thought it amusing if not downright confounding that so much effort was put in to camouflaging combat aircraft and AFV’s and then put bright colored stripes, lettering, nose art and huge stars and bars on the body. Isn’t it crazy that not until the nineties?, that DOD began using low profile or subdued markings on U.S. equipment.

So going over the landing / formation lights on this kit, I noticed something that’s not even in the instructions, thier are two places on the upper wings that have lights. BUT thiers nothing mentioned about them in the instructions

So I went ahead and painted them guessing the colors of red on one side green on the other. Still one would think that something like that would be required to be included in the painting details

At least I did get the undercarriage lights right. Thankfully I had all the correct colors

This is a well-known “Top Secret” ploy by the Nipponese Model Manufacturer’s Aliance to confuse model builders as pay back for the U S Navy’s deceptions during World War Two. I know this to be true because I read it on the internet.

One of the oddities about the green navigation lights - they appear blue when the plane is sitting on the tarmac, agt least for modern aircraft. A judge would surely ding you for it, but it would be correct.
