Had my grandsons, 6 and 4, for a sleepover New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Day I decided to introduce them both to armor modeling. I bought a batch of Meng Toon Tanks for just this purpose. They are press-fit assembly but I didn’t realize until I opened the boxes how many tiny parts they had! The boys needed lots of help from Papa and it took most of the afternoon but we got them done. No paint or decals; just the tanks were accomplishment enough.
Even SWMBO got involved to help out when I got overwhelmed trying to supervise building two kits at once. Turns out she CAN follow instructions after all! We had great fun and the boys are very proud of their first models. I’ve got more for them to build and I’ve started them down the modeling path that they will pursue on their own someday. But right now I’m getting ultimate satisfaction from building models with Papa.
Today I sanded the mold lines off of all the bogey wheels on my RFM M4A3 76 W VVSS kit. A marathon sanding session but now out of the way. Now on to the super complicated bogie trucks, with real springs in them. Oh joy!
I did their Firefly. It has the same bogie assembly. Somewhat finicky so take care. In my opinion they are too complicated although they are articulated if that’s your cup of tea. Good luck. Those two boys look like they’re having fun and you can see how proud they are. I’m sure you are also proud.
Well, there goes my dream idea. I was thinking maybe scene involving a sub-launched tin fish being fired at the same moment a big beautiful Short Sunderland dropped a brace of depth charges into the sub’s path.
First time post here. Just getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus. I’m retired now so have the time to devote to it. Went to a local model show yesterday and picked up a few kits. Spent the day cleaning my work area and getting ready to start building again.
Welcome to the forum, James! You just came to the right place. Lots of great guys here who are willing to help if you need some. What do you build? Armor? Aircraft? Ship? Figurines? Or just a bit of everything?
