Only had time ofr one, but it was great nonetheless!
Spotted an EBR on the way to the S-Bahn station.
Working on the Tamiya 1/48 P-51 for another commission build, this time for the 453rd Bomb Group museum at Old Buckenham in Norfolk. This one is destined to be an aircraft from the 370th FS name “CisCo” flown by Lt. John W. Lamont. The aircraft was based out of East Wretham and all aircraft in the squadron had a green painted nose. Here is a shot of the aircraft I’m hoping to model:
The challenge this week has been getting this Aires wheel bay (meant for Tamiya) to actually fit inside!
After much sanding and dremelling of both the resin part and the kit internal wing space, we have an acceptable fit
Although that last shot doesn’t show it well, everything does close up, so should glue ok when the time comes
Working on the cockpit next, removing some of the fine Tamiya detail to replace it with some Eduard etch.
Yes it is a neat little kit. The only real alteration it needed came from the fact that I wanted to model it minus the side skirts, which are in fact seperate, but the top edges of them are moulded along the edge of the horizontal track gaurds. So those had to be carefully cut off. Easy enough job as long as you don’t let the blade slip! Mine was supposed to come with a metal gun barrel but that was missing, so I used an aftermarket one instead. It’ll be an interesting comparison when I come to build my AFV club NM-116.
Well? Yesterday actually, but yeah. Another build in my “Get it when i get to it” pile get closer to completion.
Are you on a holiday-tour? Could you give me the information if you like to get the airbrush?
Is the kit as good as I read often in articles about tamiyas 1/48 planes? I like to build the corsair from tamiya
Yes, I am traveling for summer vacation.
Well, to me it is an excellent kit so far and I understand it builds very well, considering it’s age, close to 30 years old I think. I have no experience of the Corsair, but I am told by friends that is is also a very good kit. I know that their P-38 is supposed to be excellent, one of the best. In the end, my view is that it’s Tamiya so it’s bound to be good, but that’s just my opinion! I’ll keep people posted on how the build goes.
A bit better condition than the 1:1 scale kit version over here in the Australian Armour and Artillery Museum in Cairns:
I’ve almost finished my m-atv I still have to glue the windows I don’t have a lot of trucks so normally I do tanks more often I would like to know what type of glue would be best to use I thought I used white glue for the wood so as not to damage the windows I have already used Tamiya glue in the past but ule melts the plastic and you have no right to make mistakes if anyone has a suggestion I am interested thank you
I just bought a bottle of this:
I used it for the first time adding all the light lenses on the Landrover I am building:
Seems to hold firm, dries clear and did not melt or lift the Tamiya Clear paint used on the lens.
If don’t have to mask to paint, anything from Tamiya Clear to Future can be used. If masking is still needed, if you dip the glass in Future first, you can use super glue and not fog up the glass.
Thanks for the suggestions I will try to find one of these products at my local hobby shop
The above “specialty” glazing and glass glues are just PVA glue, a.k.a. Elmer’s School Glue. Any brand of PVA glue will work just fine and will be a lot cheaper than the specialty hobby labels.
Future is a bit thicker than Tamiya Clear, but it dries clear and glossy. I like it more.
