What is this? Abrams?

Does anyone know what tank this is?

Ken

I’m guessing some type of movie prop or really bad CAD. It kinda looks like it is supposed to be an Abrams, but just about everything is a little off.

Whatever it is, it’s a 3D illustration…

Fake! lol

SEP v3 mockup. Built on an M60 tank chassis? The other vehicles around it are real. Movie set?

3D stuff. Here’s another one

No the same render.

Something similar fooled someone else on this thraedc afew years ago, so don’t feel bad.

Wrong number of road wheels.
The M46/M47/M48/M60 lineage has six road wheels, Abrams has seven.
Counting the number of wheels is an easy way to expose an M60 based movie prop.
Topsides are easy to manipulate with plywood and cheap sheet metal, road wheels and suspension is tricky.

Nota bene: The M46/M47 also has a smallish tensioning wheel

A couple days ago, while reading up on the M60, I came across a M60 variant with an Abrams type turret.

The M60-2000, or 120S :

Cannot find the picture again. Maybe it was another spoof. It was really strange.

In the movie “American Sniper” they used a fake Abrams using an M60 as a base, looked the parts, except for the huge gap between the turret and hull.

The only movies where the producers used actual Abrams were “War Of The Worlds”, “Battle Los Angeles” and “Transformers Revenge of the Fallen”.

Factpid - the USMC 2d Tank Bn used their tanks during filming of the first two movies I mentioned.

In the movie Courage Under Fire they used a Centurion dressed up as an Abrams.
This is probably not the tank you remember …

The Walking Dead used a fake Abrams early on.

Yep. Another mocked up Centurion.

In American Sniper they used a real M60, in the post production work they
edited the images and put an Abrams “skin” over it.

The original footage:

The final result

umm
I do believe that the tank in that picture identifies as a Chieftain (acktschually … )

Another, somewhat better, M1 Chieftain:

The movie ‘Jarhead’ also used a Chieftain based Abrams look-a-like

Maybe look-a-likes could be a theme for a scratch-building campaign?

It looks like a mock-up as opposed to some CGI, but it is just “off”. Really off.
Ken

It’s a catfish tank :flushed::joy::joy::joy:
