Recently we spoke about the IJN dive bomber pilot Takashige Egusa. You might remember. This is his book and the title speaks for itself …
Have read a bit in it already. Looks to be a very interesting book about his childhood, private and military life. Came all the way from Sweden and arrived yesterday.
I’ve still got an Accurate Miniatures Mustang that Dave (Grumpy Old Man) sent me years ago and I’m waiting for the right occasion to build it. I loved their kits and was gutted when they folded.
Yesterday we had our first club meeting since 8 months and I grabbed this one to add to my sheer endless stash of Eduard kits … So far I did not have a G-10
First off - what promises to be a beautifully detailed Brassin cockpit upgrade for their new Fw 190F-8 (reviewed here: Focke-Wulf Fw 190F-8 | AeroScale).
And then a neat set of 1:48 “smoke ring” decals for Italian WWII subjects:
I’ll try to give these an outing on an actual build in due course, to give an idea of how effective they are for modellers who don’t have the option to tackle this classic camouflage with an airbrush.
That was precisely my reasoning for looking at Eduard’s new decals. I reviewed Mike’s decals back in 2007 (I can’t believe it’s SO long ago! ) and Mike posted a couple of pics of his test-builds in response: AeroScale :: Mike Grant Decals Macchi 202/205 Smoke-Ring Camo Review
Mike’s results still look superb to this day - and I’m always conscious of modellers who, for whatever reason, aren’t able to tackle a finish like this with an airbrush. The proverbial elephant in the room when discussing modelling is that there’s unfortunately an undeniable element of snobbery and superiority-complex involved, so I’m an unashamed advocate of the “cut the cr*p approach” in pursuit of good results where experience, budget or health issues might present an obstacle.
The smoke rings look interesting although I have years ago done these by hand in 1/144 along with the fried egg camo. I do have a couple of 1/48 Macchi 202 & 205 sitting in the stash so maybe.
Not many aircraft have come my way of late but I made an exception for this one.
I’ve noticed this set in their June Info and sure get 2 sets of them. Still have some Hasegawa Folgore and Veltro kits in my stash which I didn’t tackle because I’m surely bad at airbrushing smoke rings. So I can finally build some Regia Aeronautica aircraft now …
