You two have been reading my diary. My muse (figuratively speaking) took the kids, the house, the dog (she doesn’t even like that dog! He’s my dog!) and ran off with the cabana boy. Oh, muse, muse, come back to me. Bring your golden aura of energy upon my bench.
Those are great books.
Peter, I have decided to let that Tora Dual Combo pass because all 12 options look the same except for the different stripe colours of their carrier groups. I’ll better wait for their January Profi Pack release with some more colourful Zeros. So I’ll have a plan to do a comparison build of the A6M2 from Eduard and Hasegawa in my bench works thread next year. Should be interesting to see how the moulding has developed over the decades …
Hi Guys!
You can probably guess what the planned projects are
Landing lights are for a night patrol Defiant, Sunderland and Spitfire.
The G.50 will the bis version.
Best of health.
So we’re all waiting for you Night Defiant, HG! I have the Airfix kit also in my stash.
For my Kinetic Fouga Magister …
… I had problems to find canopy masks. Surprisingly Eduard does not have them at all, so I asked Mr. Goooogle and the answer came within a second …
If you have the same problems to find masks for the Magister, try Shop Of Phantoms in Germany. It was the only one I found to have them. So I have a nice project for next year …

long time since I haven’t posted. My birthday gift are coming today
I have the landor livery decals, so mine will be a what if retro scheme
Happy AERO birthday!
Had a hankering for my first Japanese aircraft. Wanted a carrier bomber. First choice was the VAL but found Jill instead .
Looks like a great kit! Unfortunately one of the exhausts popped off the sprue and is no where to be found
Oh no
Yeah, hoping I can source a replacement and/or scratch build it. Might be able to order a sprue from hasegawa but no idea if they’d have one for such an old kit
According to scalemates the reboxed it in 2020.
I did not see any aftermarket exhausts listed. Evergreen tubing or metal tubing might work.
HTH
Hmm that seems promising. Maybe I’ll reach out to them and see if I can get a replacement sent. Thanks for the tip.
If not I can likely make something passible with evergreen if I can get the right diameter. It’s too bad they aren’t identical or I could cast the one I do have
Option 2, I return it and exchange it for the “Grace” they had in the store
@Mead93 sorry to hear about the missing exhaust. Hopefully you’ll be able to get a part.
Nipped into my LHS after work tonight, and as it’s Christmas thought I would treat myself.
Bought it mostly for the Mig but I’m not going to say no to another Skyhawk.
Will have to do some research as I don’t think I’ve ever come across the USS Bennington, or of an incident of A-to-A combat between an A-4 and Mig-17. I fully expect that to be a total flight of fantasy on Airfix’s part.
Love me some skyhawk! Looks like a nice dual kit!
I’m not hopeful, but will probably still keep the kit, I don’t think it would be too hard to scratch
I don’t often get these sets, but this one was working out a lot cheaper than getting both separately. Adds to the ever growing Vietnam collection.
The Airfix Skyhawk is a good kit. Just needs some more accurate ordnance from a Hasegawa and the like.
Hopefully the exhausts can be scratched. Some brass tube would probably do the job
USS Bennington CV-20 modified Essex class, 1967 she was the prime recovery ship for the unmanned Apollo 4 command module
I’ll be adding a skyhawk at some point, I really like ground attack aircraft. I’ll probably do a 1/48 though.
The nice thing about the “Jill” exhausts is that they are fairly flat and square. Should be easy to make with appropriate thickness strip styrene
Here is the good one
Cool! It seemed to have had quite the career according to the Wikipedia entry.
According to the this VA-93 were deployed on the Bennington between 63 and 64 to provide air cover for the carrier’s ASW aircraft.
So, she’ll need a couple of Sidewinders. Something a bit different than Mk82 bombs!
@Mead93 they look they should be easy to make.
Apparently Hobbyboss have got 1/48 A-4. Whether it’s any good I don’t know. The Hasegawa one is probably a lot more accurate.
It is my understanding they are the 1/48 gold standard for Skyhawks. Even Promodeler and Eduard reboxed
the E/F kit. That said it can be hard to find Hasegawa B and C kits.
Perhaps I’ll branch out into 1/72, I’ll need to eventually for larger bombers anyway
