Great haul Gary. Some interesting stuff there.

This one was an impulse buy.

Includes the newly tooled KP Vb kit and the necessary resin bits and decals.
Freightdog Models have a handful left in stock in anyone fancies one.

The base kit looks very nice. Lots of optional parts, nicely detailed and moulded. Will probably get a couple of those in the near future.

When I was a teenager and this kit came out, my friend got it, and I thought that it was a pretty cool build. It was much nicer than my Hawk 1/48 F-104 kits that I had at the time. I’ve bought other better F-104s since then, but have always wanted to try my hand on this one, so I keep scanning eBay from time to time. I put this one on my watch list, and a day or two later the seller sent me a 25% off offer, and who am I to say no to such a deal.

Of course with shipping it cost far more than the original 1977 sticker price…

I plan on building this as a G, since I already have a C built and another in my stash.

My brain was offine while I was online and placed this order at the Eduard webshop. The parcel arrived today from Bohemia and I’m happy …

More landed today.

A Ki-109 Bomber Destroyer from PlazaJapan. Interesting thing, it’s packing a 75mm gun in the nose! Seems quite nice in the box given its vintage. Not sure how I’m going to tackle the moulded in hinomarus though. Looks like I’m buying a rivetting tool.

And also the new Airfix Beaufort.

Looks quite nice and has a full fuselage interior, even including the toilet! But, again like a lot of their releases, some parts are a bit soft and out of scale. Particularly the seat backs and some of the ribs in the bomb bay. I felt that the Vickers K guns are particularly poorly detailed. A real shame as those in the small scale Jeep are much more sharply detailed. Other parts, especially the scribing around the engine cowlings are much more sharply done. The proof will of course be in the building, and much of interior will not be seen anyway, so might not be a big problem. Externally, everything looks quite nice and sharp. One plus on the clear sprue, is another turret, which hints at another version in the future.

The real disappointment though is a broken undercarriage leg. I think this broke during packing as there is no sign of the part in the bag or box. Have emailed Airfix, so hopefully won’t be waiting long.

My thanks for the mini-review of the Beaufort and sprue pictures. I’ll probably get it anyway!

You’re welcome Gary.
Don’t get me wrong, it looks like a nice kit and some I’ve seen built have turned out fantastic. I don’t think much will be seen behind all the canopy framing anyway. Just wish they would get that detail a little bit sharper.

I’m planning on grabbing another. Have a set of decals for a Malta based Beaufort I’m itching to build. I wonder if they have an Australian version planned. Iirc they were powered by twin wasp engines?

Stephen,
I take it you have seen the Xtradecal decal sheet with 16 schemes?
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X72319?result-token=oC7jS

On the Ozzie Beau the originals shipped disassembled from Britain still had Bristol Taurus engines but later when shipment of the engines was in doubt/stopped Twin Wasps were then ordered and fitted. Note however that over time different props were also fitted and from the Mk.VI it had a larger fin, Mk.VIII different turret with .50 guns plus other mods were carried out like fully enclosed landing gear and .50cals in the wings.

Another note is that the Mk.II version flown by the RAF was also powered by the Twin Wasp.

Thanks Luciano, don’t have much on the Beaufort so always helpful to learn a little more. Will get some photos up of the spare turret, but it looks like the type fitted to the mkII. I don’t think there’s any parts for its innards in the kit (besides from the fuselage opening), so will be interesting to see what they have planned.

The decals I have is the Xtradecal Battle for Malta sheet. Some really nice subjects. Have already done one of the Hurricanes from it.

Will look at getting that sheet though. Never knew the Turkish Airforce operated them!

No problem Stephen, the Bristol twins (or is that twin Bristols?) are one of my favourite series of aircraft - Blenheim, Beaufort, Beaufighter, Buckingham, Buckmaster, Brigand.

I have the Airfix Beaufort, Beaufighter, Blenhein plus Valom Buckmaster and Brigand in the stash then in 1/48 approx 12 Tamiya Beaufighters!
Just waiting for the new ICM 1/48 Beaufort.

Must pull my figure out as I have wanted to do some of the aircraft from the battle of the Bismarck Sea for some time now I have no excuse in 1/72.

Didn’t know that but that’s great news! :slightly_smiling_face:
Do you know when it will come out?

They are nice looking aircraft. There’s something distinctly ‘British’ about their designs I’ve always thought.

The Beaufort does nicely fill that gap between the Blenheim and Beaufighter. So a very welcome release.

I see the molded part number is sharper in detail than the landing gear.

Torsten,
The only info I have is the little bit on Scalemates

Yes, I thought that myself. Just wish they could get parts that little bit sharper and better defined. Must be whoever is doing the tooling.

The part number demonstrates their capabilities.

Thanks Luciano!

Well, I think I can wait for the kit to come out. Like you I have multiple Beaufighters in my stash and that what Adolf Galland once wanted - a squadron of Spitfires. Enough to keep me busy for a looong time …
