Recent $20 CDN and under buys from a reseller. Can you guess which is first on the build list?
Sunderland!
Cannot have enough references for this hobby.
How is the Sukhoi book?
OH MAN!!! On the first try even HA HA. You guessed it.
It was a lucky guess, even more of a wish! This kit is high on my āadd-to-stashā list as I have the genesis of a multi-kit project in mind for a trio of 1/72 RAAF flying boats with 2, 3 and 4 engines (Catalina, Do-24K, Sunderland) . I have the Dornier stashed away already and have been researching the PBY kits to find the best option.
The story of the Do-24K in RAAF service is a very interesting one

Looking forward to your Sunderland build with much interest.

Just opened up the book, 2 pages of B/W photos, 1 page history (dual language), 12 pages of plans Su-27/S/UB/UBM/SM & Su-33 (SK) and 4 pages of colour profiles 2 per page, plus 2 on the rear cover.
If youāre a Sukhoi 27 fan then itās worth the price. Iām a Flanker fan so this will sit on the book shelf with the rest of my Flanker/Sukhoi ref books.
YIPPIIIIIEEEE !!!
This arrived today from my trusted LHS. The Spitfire Story continues with the Mk. II and 10 tasty looking decal options plus some pilot figures included ā¦
⦠and together with last years first part of the Mk. I ā¦
Hi again
A really nice looking kit arrived today that Iām bumping straight to the top of my priorities list (I know - I have a lot of great kits at the top of that list⦠):
Iāve always liked the Lancer, so I might try to squeeze this in as an extra build for our Steffen Arndt memorial campaign. Even if I donāt manage that, Iāll definitely post a review soon.
All the best
Rowan
I canāt wait to see your review Rowan, Iām anxiously awaiting the release of the P-43B boxing with RAAF markings. That one will jump straight to the top of my build queue!

Hi Damian
I should get the review done in a few daysā time. This is my first chance to examine a Dora Wings kit and thereās a lot to like about it. There are a few issues too - but wonāt give the game away here, or thereāll be nothing to write about in the review.
All the best

Thatās what Iām hoping for Stephen: RAAF release for both the Beaufort and their recent MKVc Spitfire. I could be waiting a while though as it seems both kits are sold out already through local suppliers so it seems limited numbers are making it into the country. Airfix seem to have underestimated demand.
Shame about the moulding issues: hope the spares department steps up
Will we see a blog soon?
I think that may be the case.
Havenāt had any luck with my email about the broken leg. Just got a response saying they were out of stock and couldnāt provide it and could I request it again in a few months time. Common sense would suggest you hold a few kits back to provide for the inevitable spares. But that doesnāt seem to be the case.
By a strange twist of fate, an hour after reading their email (and resisting replying), I was emptying the hoover and I spotted the broken part! Very quickly grabbed it before it disappeared into the bin. Should be able to repair it with a metal pin.
Hopefully supply will make it to you soon enough.
Personally, I think Airfix are following the likes of Nintendo and Sony in only releasing just enough to satisfy pre-orders, then claiming theyāre sold out. Creates greater demand when they trickle the rest out. As a business model it works, but it sucks for the customer. At least we havenāt seen the same huge price hikes as the PS5!
I canāt prove it of course, but thatās what my guts telling me here.
ooo! A lucky find for sure!
Either that or the ājust in timeā manufacturing business model, that creates artificially high prices through reductions in supply
Long awaited, Edition 30 from Luftwaffe im Focus arrived at my door today ā¦
From Edition 10 onwards I have them all. So I can count as a long time collector of this magazine, plus 4 books of Luftfahrtverlag Start. And another book is announced for this year ā¦

Hi again
I had a short day at work today and was lucky enough to catch Postie when I got home.
The first package contained some great new sample decals from Iliad Design:
Next, there was a new set of clear parts for my P-43 Lancer from Dora Wings to replace the ones I bought via Amazon. Fantastic after-sales service on this using the contact link on their website:
And then what must rate as the ultimate after-sales service ever! - again from Dora Wings - a sample to review of their new P-35 in Swedish service!:
First inspection shows the P-35 will be a real gem of a kit, so Iāll review it as soon as I can.
All the best

Those Twin Otter decals look interesting @Merlin . Is the red one British Antarctic Survey?
This gorgeous kit arrived today from PlazaJapan.
Have never seen one for sale in the UK, and the price was very low considering itās Hasegawa and 1/48. Details look amazing from what I have seen in the quick look so far and sheās a lot bigger than I expected. Always thought the Val was a small plane!
Has decals for aircraft from the Zuikaku and Soryu at Pearl Harbour.
Looks like it should be a fun build.
Hi Stephen
Hasegawaās Val is a great kit - youāre going to really enjoy it!
The red Twin Otter is a Canadian coastal surveillance aircraft.
All the best
Rowan
Ah yes, I can see the maple leaf now.
Yeah it looks a really good kit. Only recently gotten any Japanese aircraft, besides from the odd Zero years ago.
Iāll do a build log here when I start it. Will probably need some help with the colours, especially that grey!
Nice catch, Steven!
Several years ago I bought the Revell re-boxed āValā twice and built them in a ādual comboā ā¦
But be careful, BI-231 from āSoryuā was the plane of Takashige Egusa on the Pearl Harbour Raid, but not in this camo. His D3A most likely had a very striking camo at Pearl, so his pilots could recognize him in the air. The upperside was covered in a red mottled pattern over yellow. Somewhere I read, the aircraft was also called āRed Flameā sometimes. Egusa flew BI-231 in the depicted green camo with red tail on 5. April 1942 during the attack on HMS āHermesā and other RN ships near Ceylon.
Tamotsu Emaās EII-235 from āZuikakuā (is it option 2?) for Pearl Harbour should be fine.
