What the postman brought today (Armorama)

The jeep crew reminds me of the password scene in Battleground.

This gem arrived today. This is the original release of the kit, pre loved but unstarted. While there’s not many parts in the kit, it is a long vehicle!

Nickpal ~ be sure to take a look at Archer’s decal set for the DUKW. It can really serve to set this model apart from all the others!

Edit:

Also, there are several PE sets out there for the DUKW. Don’t need to use it all but the more finely made rear cockpit floor screening and wood grained detailed cockpit interior walls also really add to the final look of the model.
I had to buy the set just for that floor screening alone as the model screening is grossly over sized. Might want at the very least to replace that rear cockpit floor screening with some generic etched screen wire sheeting.

Is this the one?

I have a Star-Decals set for amphibious vehicles (DUKW AND FORD GPA)

Yep, that is the set. At minimum your going to want to fill the drain holes on the side ribbing as they are a post war 50’s mod to help prevent rusting. There is other changes needed but if planning to build out of box there is no point in discussing.

My first 1/35 scale. Unbelievably excited.

The M-51 is a nice kit (IMHO). Builds up somewhat easily into a very nice model.

Do some research on the fender mounted water cans. You may want to replace them with after-market resin items.

Haha my ocd doesnt alliw me to build out of the box. I have a Royal Model P.E set already and are sussing out some replacement wheels for it too.

Get the resicast wheels, they and maybe the Def Model might be the only correct sets on the market. I also recommend this shapeways fix DUKW suspension correction set Italeri Airfix 1:35 (FHTWA7X4M) by barkingdigger

Might as well upgrade the bumpers as well.

Thankyou for the info. I will have a look into these on my next day off. Can you reccomend any good reference books?

Thanks,

Nick

Just this one.

If you do not want to muck about too much with extra bibs and bobs, and just scratchbuild the wheel covers (your kit version does not have them despite beinbg a very common feature), how about an Aussie Army one used in Antartica in the 60’s?
