While browsing at my new local hobby shop…
More from the MegaShow from last month.
@SSGToms Matt described the process best in another post, being a Velcro Shopper. The modeler purchases and accumulates items from vendors, one had no intention of acquiring before the event. It’s never obvious how many items Velcro until sorted at home after the show. Velcro shopping is best unpacked when the SO/wife’s attention is occupied with something like the Young & the Restless etc.
Well stocked on old sets of On The Mark PE for Pz III, Pz IV & KV less than $10. Happy to acquire Model Kasten wing nuts plus a Cal Scale .50 M2 ammo box with belt. Scored a lot of old products!
Best part, no buyers remorse for any of the OTM PE, Cal-Scale or Model-Kasten or AirWar books even a month later!
Well, this week I really pulled the trigger at work… (after approval with the family CFO )
The paints were a bit more than I needed… the Russian Greens I’ll likely use up in the long run with all the Russian armor in my stash. But I have to buy by the same rules as customers. Mr Hobby/Mr Color paints in sets of 6, AK in sets of 3, box sets can be purchased solo…
I like those AK kits you got. I have been thinking about getting their 1/35 FJ. I need to read up some reviews.
Well gents this may very well be my last post in this topic. The basement stash is full, 2 aisles that look like this,
I’ve taken up the whole basement, there is no place for any more kits, and SWMBO isn’t happy! She has come down hard and fast and finally placed a moratorium on kit buying. I believe I’m maxing out at 700 kits, so I can be satisfied with what I have and I know I can’t build them all. Someday, my son will bring my stash to the Armorcon vendors room and let them go for $20 a peice. There will be some very happy modelers at that convention!
Still, there are several future releases that I know I have to have, but cannot buy. I won’t go into kit hiding and all that. Too dangerous to marital harmony. Like I said, I should be happy with what I have. So, with all that said (thanks for reading) here’s what hit my front door today -
The epitome, the creme-de-la-creme of TOW launchers -
More TOW goodness, this time new from AFV Club (with the correct sized cupola!) -
And finally, the one-off Russian answer to the M1 Abrams, that they cancelled because they couldn’t get the turbine to work, but they finally put the ammo in a blow-out turret bustle. They should have stuck with it, because then came the exceedingly bad T-14 Armata, with an even worse engine among numerous other problems -
So, that’s my swan song for this topic. Maybe if I’m good I’ll get to post some paints or a track set or two.
@SSGToms I think there are some small online hobby and wargaming shops that buy used and complete model kits. I just bought a long OOP resin 1/35 model kit from one shop in the USA in “Like New” condition. I couldn’t find it anywhere else for sale so I could assume it was from someone’s stash.
As long as they have PayPal, the online shop should generally be legit.
I know Andys Hobby headquarters does it I’ve seen the videos he posted on YouTube showing a car stash they had picked up.
I believe Noble Knight Games buys model kit stashes. You’re going to have to check with them.
I bought from them before. They are legit.
I’m not selling my stash just yet, I meant when I pass on! I’ve still got another 30-odd years to go!
That is a very difficult situation to be in and you have my sincere sympathy. My closet currently contains about 100 models and is approaching capacity. The same fate lies in my near future unless I build faster, cull the collection, and/or throttle my purchases.
Having given the situation much thought, my plan is to rank all the models from 1 to 100 and sell off the bottom 20% or so. The culling process is not limited to models. I already identified many things that can go including accessories, books, and figures. That will free significant capacity for models that better suit my current needs.
It is a very difficult task and you have far more emotional investment in the hobby than an amateur like me. Even so, perhaps a similar trading up process would work for you.
Thank you Doug that’s a very thoughtful response.
No, but duplicate kits you might want to let go, or kits you no longer want. Personally, I rarely buy duplicate kits.
Thanks for the Andy’s HQ reply. I might utilize them for some kits I no longer desire due to new releases. I’m going to have to contact them.
I don’t have any duplicates.
In what was a very quick turnaround, I received these from FoxHopp Models:
Russian fuel drums and insulated food containers - both for my T-74 project (within the “Best Tank that Never Was - Part 3” campaign).
Black Widow Models buys collections. That is how they keep the store stocked. Not affiliated, just a close friend.
Correct cupola, awesome!
Where does she stand on trading or receiving a model as a gift?
