Well, for me, albeit ancient history I remember seeing these mighty combos at the nearby School of Artillery. They ran an open to the public day each year, where just about every bit of the Army was on show, but the Royal Artillery’s main effort was a firepower session of everything they had, including this beast and the 8". I mean, it just blew me away!
Of course, one year they were not to be seen, because they’d acquired the M110 SP to supersede it but I, as a what? 8,9, 10 year-old schoolboy, couldn’t wait for this annual even to come around.
Oh, I forgot to mention Corporal and Honest John, the latter live-firing.
I man, Jeez, what was not to like?!
And of course I joined up.

Good to see that they have the pattern at a diagonal angle to the edges instead of perpendicular like most seem to. (Those can be useful to, of course, but if the sheet is big enough to be a diorama base on its own, a lot of people will just plonk a model on it and the end result looks artificial, IMHO.)

Yes, difficult to get cobbles right sometimes, and that comes to colouring too. I actually like the Tamiya printed version, but mainly because it’s pre-coloured (thus removes all thought!) and ties in with often - a ordentlich German mindset, which led to my using it for my - seems a long time ago now - venerable Berlin dio:

Fun fact. The Wehrmacht’s reliance on horses for moving equipment and the associated problems of transporting and feeding the required number of animals was cited as (yet another) reason why an invasion of Britain was never really feasible.
