It’s only 2 hours south of me. I very much intend to go barring anything unexpected popping up.
I just bought the tickets. We plan on hitting the air museum outside Macon, maybe hot the Big House and then spend time up in the Chickamauga area.
Well, tomorrow is the show. Going with my wife, oldest daughter (youngest has to work), and her boyfriend. I’ll probably be wearing some band-related t-shirt, jeans, boots, and a haphazard ginger beard if you feel like saying hi.
I highly suggest the National Infantry Museum if you go, it is right next to the base…I made a thread about both museums when I was there in April.
I actually been to the Infantry museum before as part of a school tour when I worked at another school. Do you know the M28 Davy Crockett nuclear rocket launcher they have on display?
My wife’s grandfather was one of the engineers on that project.
That’s cool…my dad was an engineer on the M109 howitzer.
I’ll be there in 20 minutes
I would love to be there. It’s on my bucket list. I have an ID so I can go anywhere on base. But the drive is 16 hours and 16 minutes, so it’s not do-able for me this time. Someday though! I’ve got thousands of photos from the APG collection so I’d love to see those vehicles restored. The armor collection must be awe inspiring. I haven’t been on Moore (Benning) in close to 40 years.
If you went back around the admin building there are a lot of vehicles in the trees and back lot including the Pz IV with the hydrostatic drive (the only one I believe other than the Pz III version) and a Jagdpanzer IV L/70.
That was closed off.
Not when we were there, but they may have learned that roping it off or putting up a sign was more effective than nothing. However, you can see it from the parking lot if you walk over to the fence.
I was told it was closed off, I actually got a tour of the museum last January.
Hey @Dan
See my latest post.
We don’t allow unsupervised random wandering “out back”. JS!
