Willys Jeep 1/24 Dual Build - Fire Pump and Farm Hack (plus a bonus Military Rebuild)

Not much bench time due to work commitments the last couple of weeks.
Assembly continuing on the 1/24 Italeri Fire Jeep. Not sure how I missed the sink marks on the mounting brackets for the front pump plate, but I’ve filled them with MS500 now.

Great work so far D.

Check out the first Jeep on the link below, seems to exactly what you are looking for on the farm hack.

Thanks for checking in David and Peter, always much appreciated. Some great photos there as well David, I’ve stolen a couple for further inspiration!

Work has kept me away from any significant bench time for a few weeks now, so I’ve just been tinkering with some small tasks. Firstly, sorting out those sink marks on the front pump mounting plate. A second dose of MS 500 has been applied.

As for the pump itself, I wasn’t happy with the fact that the second pair of side connection points didn’t have the brass caps like the front 3. I set about cutting some discs to build up something similar, and some stretched sprue to finish them off.

Once the cement has cured I will tidy them up a bit, then black primer and brass paint (AK Xtreme Metal Brass) to match the front set.

The scratch build caps look remarkably like the others! That’s those little details that will make a subtle difference.

cheers

Very nice technique and results

Excellent scratch building. Details like that really take it to the next level.

D,
Excellent job of scratch building those caps. And those raised areas really go a step above.

Some very nice scratch work, the caps look perfect

Thanks so much guys, it really means a lot to me that you give me this feedback. I’m really enjoying this project and the support here makes it that much better.

I managed some bench time and got the second set of brass plugs painted up and installed. Much happier with the look of the pump now.

I gave to hose reel a shot of Tamiya XF-57 Buff, then Testors Dullcote, and once that was cured I flooded it with Tamiya Black and then Brown PLW wet-on-wet to get it nice and filthy. Once it cured a bit I dragged it back with some Q-tips and odorless spirits and assembled the reel.

The seats got a shot of Nato Black acrylic (XF-69) and then the frames hand painted black enamel. Time to run another dry test-fit!

D,
The pump really turned out looking just like the real thing. And your weathering of the hose adds so much tone and depth.

BTW, did you ever checkout the instructions on the Dremel Toyota F1? I can’t find any info on it, and it’s just nagging at me to learn more about it.

Quick note for you. The bumps to the sides of the seats are crash pads, cushions usually made from the same material as the seat covers.

Thanks Phil. I will be hand painting them before everything else gets installed.

I managed to get some gloss down on the Fire Jeep today, photos soon :sunglasses:

Cheers, D

Gloss coat stage in progress. Still some touching up to do before I fix things in place, but dry test fit is looking good to me!

Started the main assembly on the Fire Jeep. The side arm rests were brush painted to match the seats (thanks Phil @BUTA46) using the same Tamiya XF-69 Nato Black thinned with tap water, then chassis/engine assembly was fitted and glued in place, then the tank/hose reel, fuel tank and passenger seat, and the pedals, steering column and gear shifts.

Once they had cured I fitted the drivers seat, siren shroud, light post and straight hoses. The pump, hood and windscreen frame are still loose dry fitted.

As always, plenty of touch-ups to be done, but some major steps forward here and I’m happy with the way it’s looking.
