Wire armature trees

I got some pre-made wire armature trees on Aliexpress. Pretty good and cheaper than making them. The figure with the tree is 1/35, so the tree is just over 4" tall. The other tree is smaller and I added the foliage.

Without the foliage it’s fine as is for a tree in winter. Just add a bit of “snow”.

Here’s the link, but be aware - you have to open an account with Aliexpress just like most other stores. Not that there is anything “shady” about it - I’ve been purchasing from Aliexpress for years and no problems except for the odd translation glitches in communications…Aliexpress is a Chinese company.

To be honest, the tree without leaves to use as a basic start looks fine but I think you adding the foliage is what makes this a really top piece! Nice job!

A while back, I gutted an old extension cord for the copper wire, specifically to make tree armatures. The bark looks like celluclay, which is ground up cardboard, which is pulp from a soft wood tree.

Now I wonder if, with practice, I could make a tree like that in three minutes from garbage. A lot of really useful things go into the garbage.

Yeah. Exactly.

To be clear, I am not making fun of the trees under discussion here. There is a chapter on wire armature trees in the terrain modeling book I am currently reading for the third time. The author turns all sorts of junk into genuinely good looking terrain and flora.

There is lots of useful stuff around us,
it just takes some creative thinking to use it.
