XM7 Unfit?

This reminds me of the Sig P320, which was adopted by the US Army as the M17.

Army’s New Pistols Often Eject Live Rounds and Don’t Work Well With Regular Bullets

They (Pentagon and Army brass) finding that the M17 has feeding issues with standard ball ammo, guns going off when dropped, etc…

In the civilian world, most training academies refuse to have the P320 or P365 in their training courses, because of incidents of guns going off on their own.

Wait a minute - an Army captain is right, and everybody else is wrong? The guy was already misstating facts in his report, so to me anything he says is suspect. It sounds to me like someone looking for some bullets points on his OER.

o Displays an extraordinary amount of knowledge for someone having spent so little time in the Army

As for the P320, I own three, and I’'ve managed to keep one pretty much box stock.

None has ever drop fired (or dropped for that matter) and they will eat up any ammo I feed into them, ball or otrherwise.

These guns do not go off on their own. THe one incident that started it all was a police officer who didn’t want to admit he had an ND I’ll bet.

That video proves nothing. Dude screwed up, and just like the cop, won’t admit to it. He was undoubtedly reholstering, and manipulated the trigger. I’ve run countless ranges - my own unit, with females who knew little to nothing about guns, other units wanting my M17 training, and Best Warrior Competitions with competitors from the Army Band. No one ever had an ND, nor did any of their guns magically fire on their own.

So this is a single company-grade officer’s student thesis, on a developmental rifle?

I’d like to see a transcript of his thesis defense appended at the end of the article.

And another thing . . .

This guy is attending an Expeditionary Warfare course. Shouldn’t his thesis be on something like new ideas for the mix of helicopter assault teams or tactics to seize and hold POL facilities without destroying them? This paper would be great if he was going into Ordnance or Project Management, though.

This was the topic of discussion in my veterans group between a former navy seal and a former delta guy they both said first the SMH SIG? you gotta be kidding me. Thought every new system can always use some improvements.
And they both said that depending on the operation your weapons should fit the needs long for long range short for indoor close combat etc.

As with motorcycles, bourbon, or women, and other important things in life, I’ll make my own determination. Plastic kits as well judging by a few of the reviews I’ve read here,
So I met with a Sig rep today and actually fired the M7. Not enough rounds to “wear the barrel out”
(did the good captain put that many rounds through it?) but enough to get a good feel for it. I like it. All comments about the charging handle are pretty ridiculous. It has a side charging lever as well as the M4 style charging handle, which does not interfere with the butt stock.
I managed to not break anything on it, not did my magazine eject because of the magazine release. (Again, I want some of what this guy is smoking) The magazine release is not like on the M4, on which, because I am left handed, I actually have lost a mag went the release bumped into something on my kit. On the Sig, it’s actually small lever - not going to bump your mag whe it hiuts something.
Thge good captain needs to be kept away from anyhting having to do with small arms, Maybe a job in Field Artillery.

Nice guns. The Sigs weren 't bad either.
