Your FAVORITE kit of all time

For my taste I would call the Tamiya P-47 D Thunderbolt Razorback in 1/48 magnificent. Just fun to build.

I know the title is asking for one kit but excuse me - I cannot decide between the 3 below so I’m sharing them all.

Dragon 3535 M1A1 AIM

  • Even though this is an iconic American MBT, ones before this weren’t very good and nowhere near what Dragon has done for all the German WWII stuff. This offering (although dated now) was revolutionary for the modern kits.

AFV Club 35249 M60A3

  • Another iconic American MBT that has been neglected until recently. This multi-media kit blew others away although it’s a bit complicated to build.

Tamiya 35263 M1025 Humvee

  • Yet again, another iconic American vehicle that wasn’t served right until Tamiya came out with this beautiful offering.

50 years later I still marvel at what and how Shep created this and others

This I suppose is a favourite; I was so surprised when this kit came out, I could hardly believe it. Soviet/Warsaw Pact kits were few and far between back then and I just never thought I’d see a T-64 in 1:35 – or any other scale come to that.

Of course, the quality has been eclipsed by the efforts of Trumpeter, but I quickly bought the Skif version and made it up. It went together well enough and at long last, there was something in 3D that I could relate to; I’d had access to endless pictures of the real thing when working within the military intelligence world but this kit was a revelation. My model went on display in my local model shop for a time but then came to grief; since then I’ve acquired another A version but not tackled it yet. I did however make a couple of B versions, with, I must admit, a fair few extras.

Whether or not it’s my favourite of all time, I’m not too sure – I’ve still around a zillion to tackle, but for sheer modelling joy, this was it(!)

only a zillion to tackle, are you slowing down… :sunglasses: :sunglasses:
Awesome election

I think that even if I managed to build one a week, I’d still have to try and live to 115(!)

During this time, buy a whole bunch more sets and live to 200 years.

At one point in my “collection” days I had almost 700 kits. I sat down one day and calculated that I actually had more German Armour than most of their 1943 panzer divisions.
That led to me quickly deducing that I would have to live to about 200 years to build them all. So now I am very content with about 30 kits, talk about “shrink-flation”

Based on your recommendation, I picked up the IIIL yesterday from my LHS. It does look like a nice kit in the box.
I’ll have to start a log when I make a start.

Phantom, good luck with your build. I think you will enjoy the kit, and find that it builds pretty quick.

Thanks.
I’m gathering together some photos for reference. Might try and scratch together a stowage rack on the rear. Seems like most had something cobbled together.

Mae West said it best. “Too many men, not enough time”. 90 % of my stash are “favorites”.

My Favorite Kit of All Time?

There’s a three way tie for mine. The three out of 200+ built that won’t meet the Styrene Reaper’s trash bin when the day comes.

A) 1970’s Tamiya Pz IV D. Lot of personal history with this particular kit always keeps ‘The D’ in a place of honor on my display shelf. Now a basic dusty Out of Box model from the mid 1990’s that had a great contest run back in the day.

B) Tamiya’s late 1990’s Panzer IV H. Another personal history “Pz IV” with a place of honor on my display shelf, that’s a dusty Out of Box model from the late 1990’s with a great contest run back in the day.

C) 1970’s original box Italeri Panzer IV (F1, F2, G). In 80’s collected all sorts of aftermarket for this build. By the 90’s, I had all the parts but finally understood how badly dated the kit was so the kit sat for ~30 years untouched. One of the Antique build threads (and a lot of spare parts) on this forum inspired the my most fun build to date. Decided to keep natural finish for this Italeri Pz IV G.
