Zil-MMZ-555 1/35

Yes, that’s a good idea, especially since the ignition key is already there and the most important component, the oil dipstick, is functioning.

:+1:

Painted the body, assigned a state registration plate(3d) (Gomel, Byelorussian SSR late 70s/early 80s), and installed windshield wipers.

The work is complete. The model was given to my father, who worked as a mechanic for 40 years and knows this car inside and out.

Impressive, I am sure he appreciates it.

Are the wood slats in the bed plastic or wood?

Thanks, guys! Here are a few more photos.

These are wooden inserts. They come off when you get tired of them

Beautiful build! I hope to someday build a Ho Chi Minh trail cargo version, and this will be a great reference. Are the AVD and the Zvezda kits the same? Wayne

AVD makes 5 different kits, both early and post 1976 versions of the Zil-130, as well as the early and late MMZ-555 (the build here is the later version) and the early version of the MMZ-4502. Zvezda’s kit is of the post 1976 version and is a completely different model from the AVD kits; they are unrelated.

As far as I know, these models are limited to 1983, when only one hatch was left on the roof. It’s also worth remembering when the two-tone turn signals on the front grille were introduced. But variations may vary.

So which would fit as a PAVN truck? Wayne

I assume you mean the PAVN during the Vietnam War (i.e. 1965-75)? If so AVD 3501, which is the early version of the standard cargo truck first produced in 1966; this has the early style grille with marker lights below the headlights.

I think this one.

Thanks guys, so far all I’m seeing on EBay is the 3502. Will have to keep searching. Wayne

Great picture, love the door armor. Saw a picture of the dump truck version repairing a section of trail, so may get that version and either do it or get the available later cargo version and switch the beds. Wayne Wayne

There are conversion options, such as GE Models. For a more accurate reproduction, the areas marked with the arrow need to be deepened/rounded. This is a minor issue with the AVD kit—the grille is slightly angular.
