1/35 HMMWV's in progress

Like you said, you’re not going to see it, and after being driven…

Add some grime and your color will be fine.

Thanks! The one on the left in the photo below is pretty grimy and sort of looks like a light tan color. I will add some sand and dirt weathering to mine anyway but not going crazy as again, you won’t see the undersides anyway.

I could have kept it in the buff I originally painted it in as this one is sandish/pale yellowish. The buff I used though was darker and more sandy/yellowy. The next HMMWV kit(s) I do I will paint it in the buff.

This was the buff I used before repainting and the actual color is no where near what the color sample shows. It is closer to the fuel tank shown above.

I used to paint models in the buff but the neighbors complained and it became a whole police thing, so…

:open_mouth:

I hope that kind of buff modeling never takes off

I have this Polaris DAGOR kit, unwrapped. It looks good on the eBay website, but I haven’t started it or inspected the parts.

It’s interesting that they’re coming out with utility vehicle and Light Attack Vehicle kits now, especially with 3D printing. I bought a few although time constraints prevented me from building any.

It’s a cool vehicle and a nice little kit but unfortunately mine was damaged. I hope yours is OK! Makinen built one and his was fine with no damage so mine might have been a one off. I did contact the seller but got no response from them.

I have the Legend Dillon Aero M134D set and will be using it on my Dagor similar to the ones shown below. Not sure I am painting mine in sand though.

Australia painted some of theirs in overall green. This one has another set of bars above the rear area.

One thing I noticed is that they forgot the spare tire. Not all photos show the spare tire fitted but most photos do show it. The last two photos also show a rear deck. Most photos don’t show that though but it would have also been nice to have.

With run flats it’s not always necessary to mount the spare.

The spare would have been nice to have though. I also forgot to mention, they didn’t include the winch either. Again, not all photos show the winch but again, would have been nice to have it.

As far as I remember, there was no platform for the gunner in the M1151.

Thanks! I removed it and fit a Pelican case there instead as it is too late to fill in the holes where the platform was. The Pelican case is small enough to get between the seats and through the doors.

Got the most of the body assembled and gloss coated the M1114. I might keep the right, front door open. Still contemplating it. I used AK RC226 FS33531. This is the closest match I found to modern US sand. It got a little darker from the gloss coat but still looks the best match. AK replaced the RC226 with their new line of RC paint, RC898 FS33531. I haven’t tried it yet to see if it matches the RC226 but will test it probably next week. I am hoping it is the same as the earlier RC226.

Also worked on the M1151. Not as far as the M1114 but getting there. The gloss coat really darkened the Tamiya NATO green. Hoping the flat coat lightens it back. I used the Dan Models Ukrainian identification marks decals DM35014.

I based mine off this photo. I didn’t add the antenna as I have no idea what it is and don’t have one similar to it in my stash.

By antenna, you mean that very long grey pole behind the turret? I believe that’s a utility pole coming out of the ground and not an antenna at all.

The antenna is folded down on the sloped area on the rear.

Oh, I see what you mean. That one I don’t know.

Morning all, as there are many Humvee experts here, I wonder if I could sneak in a quick question? I am doing a M998 and a M1025 for a friend that was in Desert Storm with the Marines. He drove both at times and said the first was in camo and the other was sand. Would the underside of the sand one be painted this color also? Sorry to hijack your thread! Wayne

@ namengr, the Tamiya M1025 instructions says if the vehicle is in sand, the frame is also in sand (TS-46). They said if the vehicle is in the NATO camo, the frame is in black (TS-29) as seen in the first image below. The bottom of cabin they said body color differs among each type of vehicle as seen in the second image below.

If I am doing overall sand, I paint the frame and bottom of cabin in sand. If I am doing one in the NATO camo, I paint the frame black and the bottom of the cabin in NATO green. If you go about 1/2 way up in this thread, you can see my frames for the M1114 in sand and the M1151 in black.

I believe M1151 chassis is in black color even the whole cab is painted sand.

I had this info, my question was more whether the Marine ones were repainted or original paint. My friend said their equipment was drawn from various sources Wayne

I know other equipment was repainted locally sand color. So it’s possible his sand vehicle was NATO underneath.

@twong -Note that even if the M1151 is green or in NATO camouflage, there are several layers of armor and some are sand-colored. The chassis frame is satin black. As I mentioned earlier, there are a few things that need tweaking in this model, but I know you’re doing it straight from the box.
