1/35 M3A2 and M2A2 Questions

Thanks for all the great replies. These are all very helpful. Greatly appreciated!

The distance across the top of the doghouse is 16.14 mm. (I forgot I had a spare battery with my reloading supplies - two is one, one is none) Bear in mind the sides do not create a perfect right angle with the top - there’s a very slight angle due to drafting inherent in the mold. I think you can design it to those tolerances, and it’ll be incumbent on the modeler to slightly file the bottom of the vertical mounts, otherwise they may bow out slightly.

Thank you for your quick reply and the information about the side angle. I have started the design to MCD and the mount will follow in the next few weeks. I will keep you updated.

I hate using models as references, but I’ll find my MCD and measure it as well, since I don’t happen to have one in my house. It could stand better cooling fin detail.

Here are the measurements for the three different MCD’s I have. These are as close as possible estimates as the battery for my calipers died and I don’t have a spare.

Tamiya
MCD without heat sink
L 8.75mm
W 8.5mm
H 10mm

Heat Sink
L 6.5mm
W 3mm
H 7.5mm

The MCD W is 11.5mm overall with heat sink

Base Plate
L 15.5mm
W 12.25mm
H .5mm

Meng
MCD without heat sink
L 8.25mm
W 8mm
H 9.5mm

Heat Sink
L 6mm
W 3mm
H 6.5mm

The MCD W is 11mm overall with heat sink

Base Plate
L 13mm
W 10mm
H .5mm

Dragon
MCD without heat sink
L 8mm
W 8mm
H 9mm

Heat Sink
L 8mm
W 2mm
H 6mm

The MCD W is 10mm overall with heat sink

Base Plate
L 13mm
W 11.5
H .75mm

That’s good stuff. Even without your calipers, it’s very useful. Obviously there’s some degree of variance. I tend to trust Tamiya or Meng’s measurements more than Dragon’s, and they are very close.

I’ve started designing the mount but I’m struggling to find the right dimensions - can anyone send me the distance between the mounting brackets as marked in the picture below?
Thank you very much and Merry Christmas to all.

Another great reference photo, thanks!

I can only get the measurements from the Tamiya kit part if that is OK! I will take the measurements this weekend.

This is fine. I should be able to adapt it for other Bradleys (Meng) , but I need a starting point.
Thanks very much!

After doing a lot of scouring on the forums about the MCS on the Bradley, I finally found a picture (posted by @18Bravo of all people), that actually shows the MCS mounted on the M2 Bradley…

Yeah! It bothered me THAT much.

That’s the photo that inspired the whole build. I"m always looking for the unusual. The Bradely never disappoints.

The Tamiya dog house is molded to the turret but the area in question is a separate part. It is part F24. The dimensions of the area you requested is roughly 5.7mm as best as I can get without my calipers.

The measurements for the different MCD’s are posted 9 posts above. Not sure if you saw them.

Will the mount be on the lift ring mounts or will it include them? The reason I ask - some folks may use Jacques’ very nice 3D printed ones. Other may still have some old PE ones. The difference is slight, but it could make a difference. I know I suggested be able to mount them to the lift ring bases, but it actually might make more sense to have them included all as one piece.

Thank you for bringing this up! I already thought I should include the lift ring mount, as it will be quite fiddling to put it in-between the original ones. But adding your argument, I will include the mounts for sure.

Edit: MCD is done. The bigger ones are 1/16
