I used it a couple of times, works fine.
Hi Erik,
Thank you for the suggestion, however, for once, I’m one step ahead of you,
.
And nothing embarrassing about your Messerschmitt Bf 109 diorama, looks good to me,
.
Thanks again, and cheers,

Man you’re faster than lightning
Where did you get that G ?and like the shutters on the windows and colour on the lean to - nice
Looking forward to seeing the KT mods you’ve done John, and groundwork…did you get some DAS?
I managed to find the gauze online, it’s difficult to get as nowadays most gauze seems to be unwoven for some reason,
, but it’s the woven stuff you need.

Not got the DAS yet, it’s on my ever growing to get list lol.
The turret got a bit more work done.
Found some spare bits of PE which will act as brackets for the hydraulic piston which is being mounted near the front of the barrel sleeve.
The piston will be like a telescopic ram and that gets secured to the bracket on the dish. I drilled out the 2 bigger bits of rod to act as guides and help in the glueing process.
Added some lifting hooks to the rear and cable outlets which wil feed back down into the turret the the fish mount. The large drum type thing mounted to the turret front is the external reservoir for the hydraulic oil.
For the layout I am thinking of doing a sort of hide… An excavated pit which has a permanent cam net up and that leads upto a deployed firing area…same for the control tank.
Little edit, I redid the pictures and got rid of the original 2 as the focus was out.
Yes G the bow machine gun was removed from all Shermie fireflies to make room for increased ammunition storage for the main gun. The hole was usually plated or plugged over.
Plated
Plugged
(I know, I knoww its a Grizz not a Shermie but it still proves my point.)
Hi John,
The KT conversion work is looking great, nice attention to detail, I would never have thought of things like oil reservoirs, very nice touch,
.

Hi Ezra,
Thank you for the feedback relating to my thoughts about the bow mg, also interesting to see the hull hatch projections have what looks to be flat plates applied, presumably some sort of applique armour?
Thanks again, and cheers,
,

Hi all,
Started on the Firefly, the plastic is very soft, so easily damaged, especially if a bit heavy handed like me,
.
Constructed the lower hull tub, which is straightforward enough, though a tad fiddly due to the small size and my sausage fingers,
.
The upper hull is a single piece to which are added very lifting eyes and lights. The way the lifting eyes are installed is good, they’re inserted from underneath the decks, so not easy to break off…hopefully,
.
I decided to add some applique armour to the hull sides and the front of hull hatches. These are not included in the kit but are simply cobbled together from plastic card.
The hull sponsons are just open gaps when the lower and upper hulls are married together, so I decided to add inserts from plastic card.
It all looks a bit messy at the moment as I slapped on some paint to hide the white of the plastic card additions.
Managed to rust up the corrugated iron as well,

Firefly is looking good. Side add on armour looks neat and the front plates are a nice touch.
The lean to roof is looking very weather worn, great job with that G. The whole farm house is really very very good mate.
I would question one small thing, purely from an ease of use point of view. The stone trough; would it be positioned directly in front of one side of the lean to, it would make access a bit of a pain ? Is there room to get it at the end of the steps running along the farmhouse wall ? It’s only a thought I had ?
I managed to get a bit done on the KT tracking wagon.
Wheel assembly sections for both sides are done and just taped on here for a test fit. Upper and lower hull is joined as well. The detail is pretty nice on this kit, mimics the 1/35 one very closely with everything looking to scale.
I then went on and got the tracking dish secured to the frame and the ram piston attached.
There is obviously some fine tuning to do, all the cables need to be added, the counter weights need to go onto the turret sides on the front half and more counter weights will go on the barrel sleeve in front of the piston.
I like the chunky early technology look it has.
John,
Really liking the look of your Radar KT, very impressive beast, I agree with you, the chunky retro look really gives it that feel of late war cutting edge German technological know-how,
.
The Revell plastic looks easier to work with that the Airfix material.

Hi all,
Finished the basics of the Firefly and gave it a coat of primer.
If anyone is building this kit keep an eye on the destructions as there is the odd wrongly numbered part during the build stage. Also, no lifting eyes on the turret, though they are included on the hull,
…I made some out of 0.5mm plastic rod. No rear lights, and front light guards…yet to make these, or hide their absence,

Need to add the scrim to the camouflage net, and some stowage on the rear deck.
Cheers,
,
G
Thats the way forward G
The firefly looks great with what you have done and I really like the cam net, great addition for it. Have you decided on other vehicles ? Sherman or UK themed armour ?
Going back to the KT, the detail is very nice on it - even more so when you compare it to that Tiger 1 from Airfix that is being totally rebuilt as a new kit in the other thread. I really want to get another Revell kit and see if its consistent through the range. I can easily see myself building a few more things armour related in this scale.
The Airfix Tiger 1 build is amazing, though so much outstanding work has been done to it that it’s really a brand new model,
.
I’m trying to get the Revell 1/72nd Cromwell, it gets a good write up, hopefully in the same class as your KT,
, but it must be out of production as the costs seem quite high on the ones I can find,
.

Hi all,
Just managed to add some stowage to the rear deck and scrim to the glacis plate camouflage net and have started to block in some colour to the upper hull…it looks a tad rough at the moment, but hopefully will blend in better as work commences,
.
Cheers,
,
G
That’s coming along great guns G. It’s all blending together really nicely.
Is another Firefly or Sherman an option if you have trouble with the Cromwells ?
I added a bit to the KT, and I’m on leave now for 12 days so should be able to make some headway on the base now
Got the piping on for the hydraulic ram, and electrical cables for the dish feed into the turret.
Have put the counter weights on the barrel sleeve and the font of the turret sides.
The box on the front of the hull is going to be a mount for the 3 way distribution box that would control the flak guns.
And added some mesh for the rear grills from the Scimitar PE fret
Hi John,
If I can’t get the Revell Cromwell I don’t think I’d go for another Firefly as I seem to recall reading that they were issued as 1 to a troop…of course I could be wrong on that point,
.
Hope you enjoy your 12 days of R&R,
.
Cheers,
