2023 Campaign ideas?

In case you have not seen it, several of us are batting aroung the idea of a Shep Paine Tribute Campaign.

Don’t we all!

I think a build covering all types of artillery would get some interest. My dance card is pretty booked now, but I could Tango if it were to go into next year.

I’ll set one up as a proposal and I’ll need it to be into next year also. What would be some suggestions for a good name? We could start on 28 July and call it the Guns of August, but I don’t want it to be too Great War-ish.

King of battle?

I’ll be in for sure! Need something for my M2A1 to tow. Will either be a M2A1 105 mm Howitzer or a 3 Inch M5 anti tank gun on carriage M6

Serious name suggestion: “Fire for effect”, “Bring the rain/making it rain”,

Fire in the Hole

Have Gun – Will Travel

Thunder from Yonder

Reach out and touch someone

Yank my chain - see what happens! (Yeah, yeah its called a lanyard, I know)

How about “Crump!” - short and simple…

We should go with their favourite name … “Drop Shorts”

This is the first name I thought of.

There was supposed to be a (modern) special operations campaign 2023; however, it never formed or got started.

If started, I say split it into two campaigns and two eras…one SOFs WW2 to Vietnam, and one SOFs Cold War to present day.

How about a painting campaign on color tones?

  • ALL BROWN sepia photo tones (ancient Western and pre-1900s photos)
  • ALL GRAY SHADES for black and white photo tones (1900s to WW2)
  • ALL GREEN and BLACK night vision goggle scene tones (modern times)
  • ALL WHITE and BLACK (“white hot” or “black hot”) thermal imaging scene tones (modern times)

Another campaign idea might be “Wrecks.”

Take any old and trashy kit (AFV, diorama, structure, railroad, cars and trucks, scratchbuilt, mecha, kitbash, etc.) and create a scene of a wreck. Use up those spare parts…get rid of those forgotten shelf queens… use old vintage kits that you will never build OOTB.

Use rust, weathering, dust, chipping, holes, warped, melted, messy, stained, battle damage, etc…anything is welcome as long as it looks wrecked.

I have just the kit for a wrecks campaign. I spilled glue on a hasegawa B6N halfway through the build. Thankfully I could salvage most of the kit but the lower wing was trashed. I had to buy a second B6N to get a new lower wing. This leaves me with a complete Jill minus the lower wing which is a mess. I plan to build it like this:

How about “Low Level Heck” (that was intentional), for Air Cav helicopters (inspired by the novel “Low Level Hell” by Hugh Mills), it could encompas not only Cav Scout helicopters of the Vietnam War (OH-6, UH-1 Hueys, AH-1 Cobras), but also modern Air Cav helicopters, like the OH-58D and the AH-64D (now that Takom has released their Apache kits in 1/35).

And not only the aircraft modesl, but also figures and busts of helicopter pilots and door gunners.

A b/w one could be fun. Ever since seeing an all black and white diorama in one of Shep Paine’s books it’s been in the back of my head to try.

I still want to get a Stealth and X-planes campaign going, maybe in the fall or next year.
