2023 Campaign ideas?

Still the X-planes idea. I’ve got the Saunders-Roe SR53 rocket fighter and prone position Meteor that are perfect for that.

OK, I’ll bite on a Halftrack. I have several candidates in the stash. Any scale in particular, or all scales?
Next Jan would be best for me.

Has anyone ever done a campaign calling for use of a very specific painting technique?

During my return to model building I find myself exploring many painting techniques. Building is building but painting techniques vary wildly. Realistically reproducing certain effects with paint is a real challenge.

For example…

Winter Warfare: Build a diorama, figure, or vehicle configured for, or representative of, warfare in a very cold, snowy environment. The challenge of this campaign is to replicate snow, whitewash paint, and/or winter clothing in scale. Dioramas must include a significant amount of snow on the ground. Figures must wear white winter combat clothing. Vehicles must wear winter whitewash paint covering at least fifty percent of all external surfaces. Any historical period or scale is allowed. An underway project is allowed as long as the builder must expend at least 20 hours of additional effort to reach completion.

Ashes to Ashes, Rust to Rust: Build a diorama, figure, or vehicle that exhibits the effects of extreme wear resulting from prolonged exposure to fire and/or water. The challenge of this campaign is to demonstrate techniques that replicate burned material and/or severe rusting. A diorama must focus on something that caught fire and burned out or suffered severe rusting. A figure must wear decayed clothing and/or carry badly rusted equipment. A vehicle must show signs of significant fire damage and/or severe rusting. Any historical period or scale is allowed. An underway project is allowed as long as the builder must expend at least 20 hours of additional effort to reach completion.

Paint it Black: Build a diorama, figure, or vehicle representing, wearing, or painted pure black but using contrasting colors and techniques to enliven the subject and add depth. The challenge of this campaign is to add contrast, depth, and visual interest to a focal subject painted pure black. A diorama must focus on something painted pure black but incorporate other elements that restore visual interest. A figure must wear a preponderance of pure black clothing but utilize false lighting, additional clothing, or additional equipment to restore depth to the piece. A vehicle must wear pure black paint on at least half of all external surfaces but incorporate additional equipment and/or painting techniques to add contrast and visual interest. Any historical period or scale is allowed. An underway project is allowed as long as the builder must expend at least 20 hours of additional effort to reach completion.

I’d be up for a winter whitewash campaign. The only tank in my stash—Tamiya’s E8 Sherman—was purchased for that technique.

We didn’t have a “Special Forces Campaign.” The idea was posted and the dates set, but it was never activated so no one signed up. The dates passed without incident and no one noticed.

I love halftracks! Count me in for the campaign.

I would like to build the SSModels M4A2 kit in 1/35 in Marine Guadalcanal markings. Is there a campaign going now that it would qualify for?

Anyone up for a light tanks campaign next year sometime. I love light tanks especially from early WW2

Count me in for one next year.

I’m in for that one but not with the M2A4. I will want to work on that one now.

Paul

There are a couple of campaigns I would like to see & would join in with if they were running:

JEEP! - this would be for any small Jeep like vehicle, civilian or military. This would include Jeeps, Land Rovers and other vehicles that are similer, 2WD or 4WD. These would have been built as soft skinned vehicles but may have armor & armament added later by the user. It would exclude larger vehicles like scout cars, command cars & HUMVEES. Any time or scale.

Scout Cars - would include all wheeled vehicles used in the scout role including Jeeps, armored cars, communication cars, command cars, multi-wheeled included. They should not be trucks (carry cargo) but might have been built from trucks to perform in the scout car role. Any time or scale.

Any interest?

We had a ‘Jeep’ one a few years ago Paul; it was a lot of fun as it was open to like vehicles such as the Kubelwagen, Schwimmwagen, Gaz, etc just like you suggest.

I would be interested in going again. I think if you start a specific post in the staging area for it, rather than just here, more people will see it and you may get more buy in.

If you intend to allow Land Rover type vehicles, I assume people might want to ask whether Toyota Tactical types would fit too. Maybe call it something less specific than JEEPS to show your wider view and make the thread name a bit catchy to get people to look at the thread. Maybe something like “The MUVer of all builds” (Military Utility Vehicle). Then list out a few vehicle types you want to highlight as in say:

Jeep, GPA, Kubelwagen, Schwimmwagen, Gaz 64B, Austin Champ, (maybe the Austin 10 HP Utility?), Land Rover Series 1, 2 & 3, Land Rover 109, Ford Mutt, etc

Then others you might accept like:
M274 Mule, Supacat ATMP, etc

and a few more outside what you propose to round out what you are thinking, e.g Hummer, UAZ-469, GAZ Tigr, Husky TSV, etc.

Love it!

Of if you can find one; a USMC M1161 Growler; or M1163 ITV.

Growlers didn;t last long in the USMC inventory. You see a few of these pop up for sale from time to time through the surplus auction sites, like Gov Planet.

I think I would be up for that.
Got the ICM Australian Ford T that would fit right in.

I’d be happy to have a go with an Austin/Hillman Tilly (Malta). Something small enough and with camo interesting enough that I might even finish. :paintbrush: :+1: :+1:
