2025 Predictions

Hopefully RFM will release the M992 M992A2 or M992A3.
Their update kit of the workable tracks however tells us that they are compatible for the M109A7/M2A3/M2A4/M7A3. I wonder if they are going to release these (M2A3/M2A4/M7A3) kits as well. Then again Magic Factory has already release these.

That may be so. But if they release the M992A3 itā€™ll have the same inaccuracies as their M109A7.

Border Model released three (?) 1/35 scale aircraft in 2024, including one variant of an older model (Focke Wulf 190). They are scheduled to release a Heinkel 111 soon and a B-17 in 2025. The Messerschmitt 109 pool is drying up, so I expect another variant of that plane in the near future. Adding a Stuka variant would also be easy and make sense. Maybe the people at Border release a 1/35 Mustang to go with the B-17? Best bet is probably another Messerschmitt 109.

Maybe the people at another model company will try to take advantage of these 1/35 scale aircraft and release some appropriate air field vehicles like ā€˜follow meā€™ Jeeps, fuel trucks, tanks specifically used for guard duty, and tow tractors?

We already have a nice tractor in 1/35. I canā€™t understand peoplesā€™ reticence at building resin kits.

Based on their Iltis I expect Aceā€™s upcoming Munga will make your resin one look like a walk in the parkā€¦

As for the Commanders tractor, Iā€™ve heard nothing but horror stories about their QC, to the effect that you need to open the boxes at a show to find one with all the bits properly cast. That puts me off doing any online ordering!

I have to say Tom, not much wrong with their MBT-70(!) - it is, of course, the only one of their models I have boughtā€¦

HobbyLink states it will be there in Jan. 2025ā€¦

The FMTV A2 has recently been tested, and as far as I know will be fielded in the near future. Probalby not available in kit form next year but I predict 2026 perhaps.

I heard some legends that the reason why the FMTVA2 has a hood is because some Army drivers complained about the FMTV not having an engine hood and made it harder to gauge the bumper front and distance before hitting something. So the A2 version reintroduced the engine and the hood in the front as a more conventional truck design. Is this true? @18bravo

I would LOVE to see a proper F-101 Voodoo and modern S-3 Viking. Both would make me a happy camper

Having bought the old Airfix Viking earlier in the year, I second that suggestion.

It is due to a larger engine and better survivability. Having the wheels in front of the cab as opposed to under it makes it more survivable when hitting a mine. The blast is in front of the cab and absorbed by the suspension and engine as opposed to being under the driver.

I am somewhat surprised more vehicles do not follow the plan form of the Husky VMMD. Design a generic cab unit with a V hull bottom, then mount it high on any desired vehicle frame. In a safe area, leave the cab down, resting on the frame. In a contested area, jack the cab way up.

I"ll have to ask, but that reason has not come up. I do know that the COE trucks were intended for use in Europe where narrower roads and tighter turning radii were a concern,

The A2 series will have armored and unarmored cabs, as well as optional undercarrige armor kit. One thing we learned in Iraq was it didnā€™t matter what the configuation of a vehicle was - if the IED was command detonated it made little difference - they could target whichever part of the vehicle they wished, and that was often the rear compartment where there were likely to be more troops.
Often roadside EFP type IEDā€™s couild hit any part of the vehicle they wanted as well, even if they were not command detonated. The enemy is much smarter these days. Whether vehicles had the Rhino or not, they simply reaimed or placed their devics so that when an IR signature was detected, or a vehicle triggered the device, it was directed farther rearward.
Many of the deaths and injuries were attributed to spinal compression, being violently tossed around in the vehicle, or being struck by unsecured items in the vehicle.
Exactly this happened to a vehicle driven by a teammate of mine in 2014 when the SOD-K when to Afghanistan.

Either way itā€™ll be interesting to see who produces it first.

I hope this is a good forecast instead of another ā€œwish listā€.

Iā€™d like to put the OG M60 ā€œSlickā€ from Takom in 1/35 in the ā€œpredictionā€.

As to WWII German stuff, of course. No doubt.
And we can always count on Italeri and Dragon recycling their old stuff over and over in 2025.

I predict Italeri releasing 80th anniversary of VE/VJ day ā€œlimited editionsā€ of some ancient kits, possibly with new suggested paint schemes and decals
