3D prints and CADs Part 2 - by petition2God

Just a thought. An untapped market and if you were able to post on a site like BritModeller, you might be surprised…

anyway, keep up the great work.

Modern US glad hands and air brake connector CAD. Not sure if this is done?
Feedback?

Realized that I did not have a bent version of US modern antenna base so CADded it based on a reference photo:

Happy modeling, everyone!

The gladhands look right to me. Very nice. Let me know when you are ready to print some.

Hi all,
Someone asked me if I could 3D print antenna matching units separately. Please excuse my ignorance but is the matching unit the round parts below the spring? Can someone educate me?

Kind regards,
James

The whole thing is called a Matching Unit Base. The spring is part of it and it goes below the ring w/the bolts to attach it.

So here’s a version of the “connected” modern glad hands:

$3 per pair as a set (a truck would need at least 2).

A choice of WWII - a) separate glad hands or b) connected glad hands
or
the modern US - a) separate glad hands or b) connected glad hands

Thank you for looking!

OK, so you can mix and match these antenna matching unit bases:
$1 per pair of either straight or bent or 50 cents each unit.

James

Hi James
Just wondering whether you pursued this? Think it’s a Gentex DH132 CVC.
I got a set of 3 of these in 1/16th from Jason Studio net, the problem being I want to attach them to crew figures, but the Jason helmet is modelled as empty with earphones sagging inward - effectively precluding fitting them to a head. If you were to do a set, I’d suggest having the goggles separate & perhaps a selection of different goggles - ski goggles - as was often seen utilised in the 80’s & 90’s.

OK, CAD and resizing to 1/35 done for the modern Glad Hands!

Hi Mal,
I do have a DH132 CVC CAD in my STL file stash - in addition to collecting kits, now I collect 3D files… So I do have editing that file as one of my “future” projects and plan to make it into more accurate replica, 3D printable, and sellable:

Certainly not able to get to it this month - maybe in April of 2023…
I’ll keep that in mind.

Kind regards,
James

James,
I’ve kept pretty close tabs on your 3d printed projects so don’t think I’ve missed them, have you considered .50 cal. casings and links? I could use some to scatter around the base of my Abrams CWS.

Hi Sean,
Thanks for looking. You’re the second person asking me about those. The casings may be doable but probably not the links themselves. Anything less than 0.12 mm in thickness is at risk of not printing. Some things are better suited for metal PE.
The casings’ diameter is around 14mm so 0.4mm in 1/35. So they could be done theoratically. Due to size, I would need to sell a whole bunch to get ROI.
So the bottom line is probably not unless there are more compelling reasons and more practical ways to make the links.

Kind regards,
James

Received an interesting CAD/3D print request for some clear resin parts. So here’s WIP (juxtaposed with a reference photo in CAD software).

Plan to print these with @amoz02t’s clear resin 3D print orders.
