3D prints and CADs Part 2 - by petition2God

Really cool thing about Elegoo is that they have an open box sale section and if you can wait and be patient then you might geta printer for a steal (albeit with a little risk).

WIP turret applique armor for M4A3 “Thunderbolt VII” - STLs will be available for 1/35 and 1/16 scales.
Used the weld seam I created a few days ago:

Today (Jul. 22, 2024), I’ve received M800 series conversion set from Hobby Link (via Wanamaker Models distributor) in 1/35. Very nice print quality - however the hood shape is so off.

Comparing to my 3D print design (dark gray - mine P2G3D, orange - Hobby Link):

What’s up with the rectangular bulge and subtle side cuts?

The cuts, dimples, and curves are quite off when comparing to the reference photos:

My CADs are more accurate:

I don’t plan on attacking this project again [anytime soon] but just wanted to show a little review.

Something I plan to use on my current M60 “Slick” project. M48 series or M60 loader/gunner hatch springs in 1/35.
I did not like any of the molded on or separate plastic spring parts. You could scratch build one using some copper wires but that can be a hassle (making a coil and using superglue to stick metal to plastic) and inconsistent. So here we go - thanks to the 3D printing technology.
These are small obviously - less than 12mm in length and about 1.1 mm in diameter.

Darn thing took me 4 hours to finish unfortunately. Thought 1-2 hours at most originally then those curves and spacing messed me up!

They’ll be available on my cults3D page soon.

Happy modeling!

Nothing fancy.

Looks excellent James, five sets ordered for my 5-ton “ fleet in progress “.

I dry-fit the M817 front wheels with this product in mind.

In fact, I’m going to have a darn good try at retrofitting a pair onto my M813 with TPU. :kissing:

Lovely work James.

Thanks. Cost me some time to get those weird angles and my wife getting really pissed at me for spending too much time.

More fine work!

Love the detail. Printed OK?

I’ve found that super detailed stuff, that’s super small and fragile, is, well, super small and fragile! :joy:

Looking good. Hmmm, is someone else building a CUCV?

@taylorrl is building the car?

Gino, I have the Miniman Factory CUCV but haven’t started building it yet. I’m working my way through the 20th and 21st century US Artillery before tackling the support vehicles. I ordered a brush guard from James because the kit one looks pretty fragile.
