On the same note, I STOPPED taking custom design orders of 3D prints.
Please don’t ask if I don’t initiate it.

It only seems like it would make sense to make a somewhat bulk order, in order to make the printing, packaging, and shipping. work out in a somewhat profitable way, but that is just me guestimating my way through in my head as I have no real experience with printing.
USMC M1A1 vent cover 3D prints in 1/35. Came out very nicely:
Those look great James.
I already stopped doing custom orders a few years ago.
People always have great ideas and suggestions, but they are never happy, and always want everything for free.
Just design what you need or desire.
Obviously if we ask for something to be designed for us, we are (or should be) happy to pay.
Conversely, when a 3D modeler or resin company gets reference material from someone (not found by Googling) they might consider our time and expense as well.
Unfortunately, that has not been the case 99.9% of the time in my experience. People just ask and “suggest” something in 3D print without an intention to pay. Those who “request” or “suggest” stuff have no reference data or highly insufficient reference data. In my 3 years of CAD and 3D printing stuff, there were like 4-5 requesters who approached me with adequate data out of hundreds, and they were willing to pay the reasonable price for the work.
Worse yet, some of these requesters on this VERY FORUM would shop around and ask multiple modelers if they can CAD something after someone has spent hours researching and began the work. Then they just burned them for another. Those are the people I will NOT deal with.
People have been burned both ways. Everyone wants stuff for free I get it - don’t we all? That’s the real world.
I feel your pain. I CAD for a few decent folks who often have a ton of info for me, and I am good at Googling stats such as length etc of the objects. But there are lots of others out there that are fickle and will lead you a merry dance - I had that when advertising my services on Shapeways some years ago. And I’m certainly NOT trying to make any living from it! Concentrate on models you want for yourself, and offer them for sale to others only as a way to maybe recoup a bit of your own costs. Otherwise, I’d only take requests from tried and trusted clients such as folks who have shops to sell your stock. (And of course friends from my model club who need a part - they’re “family” after all…)
Right, Tom, that’s exactly what I have been doing - only make stuff that I want for myself or something I’d use. Part of the blame is on me - I underestimated how much time CADding would take and overestimated my skills. I should not have started offering the service so early…
Got so sick over the weekend and staying put at home now… This is just hobby - not worth sacrificing your health. Stay healthy everyone!
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
it’s making the rounds
3D printed “workable” Dragons that do not self-deteriorate in chemical reaction for my children.
Pun intended.
That is pretty cool.
This MG 3 (Not MG 42 since I plan to use it on modern Leopard 1s and 2s and not for the WWII Nazi German models) 3D printed nicely considering the size in 1/35 scale

This maybe the best version of this, that I have seen. Fantastic work. Now if you had separate interchangeable barrels and a working charging handle…
Something simple for the AHHQ M113A1 in 1/16. Wheel mask for 3D printing in FDM printer.

Interesting. Since my observation in December these and your other wheel masks appear chamfered…
