About the reason for the difference? I thought I had just explained that Revell USA made poorer-quality kits than Revell Germany, is the short form of it, but you could find either in a box by the other. Or at least, here in Europe you would get Revell USA kits in Revell Germany boxes ā Iāve never been in a position to check if that also happened the other way around, but I kind of assume it did.
Opening old paint jars? The Swing-away works wonders.
This is one of many of @SSGToms Mattās fantastic tips and itās outstanding!
Gunzy paint jars (newer) are by far the best and my favorites . The inside seal is beveled so that paint dips to the center of the cap instead of the edges. Itās 3x better than Tamiyaās lids and less prone to foul the threads.
With proper clean up, even the old Gunzy paint jars are issue free. Still using my 1st jar of Gunzy Tire Black from the mid 1990ās in December of 2024. It has probably 4 ccās of MCLT thinned paint left in it.
Ah, nun verstehe. I didnāt realize you were in Europe. The few Revell Germany kits Iāve seen were definitely better quality over on this side of the pond.
Some of their recentāish kits are pretty nice. The Bronco, LandRover and Airbus 380 are 3 I completed that I really enjoyed.
Revell Germany or the US branch?
Hey Wade, and thanks for the shout out.
Indeed, the Swing - A - Way is a MUST HAVE tool for modelers. It is miraculous how it opens paint bottles with minimum effort. Canāt open a paint bottle with your hands? Cap glued on with dried paint? Channel Locks wonāt do it either? Grab the Swing - A - Way and with one quick turn the bottle is open. Get one, you need it. It will be the best $10 you have spent in a long time.
Matt, that is absolutely true!
Most of my old previously opened bottles of Floquil & Tamiya from the 1990ās had a new lease on life thanks to the Swing - A - Way.
It proved so useful, I bought two more, one for my elderly mother and one for the kitchen.
Interesting questionā¦ Boxes/Scalemates says Revell but this just makes you scratch your head. Either way they are putting out some very nice kits
Interesting Wikipedia article. I wonder where it will go from here. Still, with their ā¦ checkered ā¦ history, Iām not sure Iām ready to trust them. āPutting out some very nice kits,ā you say. Thatās good, but will it continue, or will they run the molds into the ground, as they did before? Only time will tell.
Ya the recent kits are just awesome. Hope they keep on that trend.
Revell also keeps re-popping old molds which is part of why they look so poor in comparison to most contemporary kits. When they do get around to making a new mold they are generally alright. I think their automobile kits are usually better than AMT or MPC kits.
Revell also puts out the work of other companies which can be of mixed quality. An old Italeri versus an old Dragon? Bit of quality variation and that does not help public perception.
I would buy any new mold Revell kits based on recent experience. Scalemates is your friend.
That has been exactly my impression, and perception. It would be nice if they cleaned up their act entirely. Their competitors are putting out very good quality.
These
And a bit older great kits
What year is the Ford Bronco?
My father-in-law has one he bought brand new back in ~1970 that looks exactly like it ā¦plus some rust.
2016 release according to ScaleMates
