Alligator clip on a stick

AliExpress thought I needed to see this:

I have not used or even seen them in real life so I do not have any opinion at all about quality.

I just bought a bag of clips and a bag of wooden skewers at a dollar store, put them together, and ended up with the worst-tasting Reese’s peanut butter cup I’ve ever had.

As I’m buying more equipment for my workshop, I keep wondering if I should buy some of those. Although Aliexpress has a lot of cheap ones like this, I don’t see them used often in the video tutorials I watch; it seems that toothpicks with tack is the way.

That said, for the price of this product, it’s not like I will ruin myself… but I’d rather avoid the clutter

I assemble as many parts as possible before painting so my need for tools like these is rather limited.
Clutter though, that’s another kettle of fish …

I also bought a package of 20 similar from Dspaie (on Ali Express). I find them handy for holding small parts for spray priming them. Identical ones are re-packaged for North American market at over twice the price.

I like to stick them in old blocks of foam to hold things during airbrush or priming

Standard alligator (or as I prefer, crocodile clips!) I’ve seen and used before exactly like those in the pictures posted above by @Tojo72, @amoz02t and @Biggles50 but I’ve never seen any looking like those in the photo @Uncle-Heavy posted. Are they AI generated? They look sort of like alligator chop sticks (from Aliexpress aren’t they?) with a stick on each side of the clip or is that just a false impression.

Circled the questionable bit in red;

The photo I posted shows a lot of them crammed into a circular can.
Here are two detail photos:

Ok. I trust you….but I still don’t trust Aliexpress!

Can’t blame you

I haven’t had any bad experiences yet, but who knows …

I paint parts on skewers. These are useful for painting parts that don’t have small holes or where I can’t drill a small hole for the skewer alone. Especially a part that has bulkheads (blackheads??) or other tabs behind the part that the clip can clip onto.

One of my more socially acceptable uses for them is as heat sinks when soldering brass wire. Put them between the joint you’re soldering and the one you just did. It will prevent heat from undoing your previous joint.
Speaking of joints…

Are yours creaking too?

I have I small set of those exact clips, got them at Hobby Lobby.
Also got, maybe from same place, a small black plastic base full of holes to set the sticks into

Exactly! In the fabric section of all places.

12 per bag

The base

Or this is an alternative I’ve found very useful…

The base is strongly magnetic meaning the flexible arms can be positioned anywhere on it to suit, but I have to keep wristwatch/phone/anything metallic at least a metre away, and carefully stored when not in use.
