AMX 13 challenge

Really nice detailing Olivier. It will all add to the finished kits overall look.

I just started the weathering of the IDF tank with a pinwash of Dark Brown. I first used the AK reference for US vehicles in OIF but the contrast was definitely not enough so I changed for a Mig Dark Brown for Green vehicles.

As soon as I can I’ll cover it with dust.

While the wash on the 13 IDF was drying, I’ve applied the markings on the 13/90. Unfortunately the decals in the box are wrong for a French tank except for a single vehicle plate. So I had to purchase a Star Decals sheet (for the AMX 13 SS11 and AMX 13 Chaffee) and use some of the decals (bridge class disc and railway transportation class discs). I used the Takom valid vehicle plates and that’s all. The NATO unit symbol is wrong. If I find a picture of the tank with this plate I could probably add the turret numerals which were standard on the French AMX 13s at the time.

FC Modeltrend should test print the 105 mm gun today. Hopefully I’ll have good news soon.

Nice to see these being dressed. Both look exceptional with the extra work you did. :+1: :+1:

I’ve made some progress on the weathering of the 13 IDF and I have started it on my 13/90.

Sorry for the over exposed pictures. I guess I used bad settings for my camera.

The IDF AMX 13 is done. The weathering is minimal according to the current standard but it’s the way I do it to avoid overdoing it.

Next one to cross the finish line will be the 13/90.

I prefer the restrained weathering myself, enough to show some use/wear but not enough to obscure the subject. :+1: :+1:

The IDF 13 look great. Perfectly weathered in my opinion. Great job.

Sometimes less is more Olivier, and that way it shows off far more of the subject :+1:

And at the end of the day it’s what the builder likes… I like havey wheatering so my models will be worn down, even if it’s a new vehicle

Phew! Glad it’s not just me who slathers their models in cam nets and mud or dust!

Seriously though, outstanding models Olivier, and finish. This has all been extremely useful to me, not least as I have 2 x Heller AMX 13/105s in my stash. I anticipate a challenge.

Hi all
there is no judgment in my comments about the weathering. I don’t pretend holding the truth

I think one reason why I keep my weathering minimal is the fear to overdo it. I only model modern vehicles and they usually are well maintained. That doesn’t imply you cannot cover them with dust and dirt.

Here is the 13/90, let’s say at 99% finished. I need to work out a solution to fix the angled rear registration plate without ruining the decal.

I’m now waiting for FC Modeltrend to release the 105 mm gun barrel to complete the Argentinian brother.

Tanks spend 99 % of their time in the less weathered state.

Thanks for the comments. I just noticed that I’ve omitted the registration plates on the 13 IDF. I was surprised that Takom did not provide them. It was just me not properly looking at the instructions :upside_down_face:
All is OK now.

I see that FC has posted that their 105mm barrel is for sale as of Friday. Have you got one yet Olivier?

I placed my order and I am waiting for the delivery. Of course I’ll review it when it arrives.

Excellent work Olivier … great attention to the details :+1:

Thank you Walter. Today FC Modeltrend sent me the replacement barrel for the Argentinian tank. I’m eager to get it and fit it to the turret.
