Antique Antics

Great to have you here Akio, looking forward to watching the BMP get started.

hello Paul
Did you have trouble processing the parting line?
The Thermal jackets of L7 gun seem to be complicated…

Thank you.
It was a good opportunity as I had just set up my own rule of “No ET parts and No after parts”!

Welcome onboard Akio, looking forward to see that old model come to life. I build one 20 or so years ago.

Nice progress on the 88mm Flak, John. Looking forward to see more :slightly_smiling_face:

Nice to meet you Rory.
I have also made this kit.
It will be a nice experience with memories of the past precious!

What to built about tracks, would you keep the belt tracks or use a white metal one? The instructions paper suggest burning way to the belt for gluing, which is an old technique.

Thanks Jesper,
The shop owner was not interested in the old products at all, so I rescued that.

The basic-coloring and building are very delicate and cool. It doesn’t feel vintage taste. Nice.

I remember when I built this one when Dragon released it. Not a bad one even if it’s not fully accurate.
Enjoy your build.

Hi Akio,
I know what you mean about the thermal sleeves. Had issues on other builds but nothing insurmountable on this one tbh. I’ve noticed a few areas that need a bit more work but it shouldnt present too much of a problem… I hope…

I hope your success!
I appreciate your making, its my favorite tank.

Glad to know the carpet monster coughed up your part…surely after a long fight!

Still need those kit tracks??? Need your name/address again if you do!

I think so but I will wait til I finish the turret and don’t need any other parts.

I will be using the belt tracks included. Not sure how many white metal tracks were produced prior to 2000 and honestly, they are some of the better 1970’s era belt tracks. Once they have been weathered up they should look fine.

Did some work today. Filled in the holes on the underside, added some plasticard to fill in the sponson’s. I also used some Mr. Surfacer 500 on the hull and sanded it down a lot to give the smooth plastic the appearance of rolled steel. I want it to be more subtle as I am not going for a cast texture.

I will start work on the turret next week.

Did the return rollers & idlers today. Used spares from an Imperial DML Pz IV F2 kit for both. The It return rollers would have worked but looked a little thin to me.

Tracks went on as well.

The original slow setting Testor’s Liquid Cement is still my pet favorite for individual link tracks.

Went “artistic” with track sag so it would “look more interesting”. A mistake on my part should have favored “more realistic” and less sag by about two links.

Back boring stuff like tidying up the ~65 or so sink marks in the sides of the track guide teeth. Hopefully easier with the tracks assembled vs doing that link by link.

Akio, its one I’ve wanted to build for a long time and only recently managed to grab one. There is something quite graceful about the lines…

If any one is interested, here is one blog post that seems to have all the movie stills in one place.

Another small detail is no tank appears to have any pioneer tools, granted many shot are from the opposite side of the tools but still appears none are present.

I bet the real crews didn’t want them lost, broken or stolen… Probably just sent out with bare minimum kit and a small maint team to manage them while filming ?

Welcome aboard!!

You move fast!
But it all looks good, s keep it up.

Nice work, but the tracks look very slack. Almost Russian.
