Best Humvee

OK I stand corrected thank you for the update.

Unfortunately, D-Corporation (D-Company, D-Toys, etc.) is gone. I can’t seem to find anyone carrying their sets. They had some good stuff too.

Damn I’ll have to update my list of stuff that I want.

The vehicle in the photo is most likely a collector’s version. Mixed several elements from different versions. Search the internet for the word ā€˜dumvee’. Check out this workshop

Now this fellow is going to go crazy after seeing these picturesšŸ˜€Perhaps the dumvee theme should be confined to. Let the interested party himself have his say.

Almost two years after @SableLiger post:
Yes, Yugoslav forces did capture those soldiers in a Humvee, yet this is not the one.
OSCE Mission had orange painted Humvee’s (Walker mission), and some were parked in Belgrade just prior to the bombing campaign, along with some red cross jeeps. I was working at that time in a vicinity of that parking, we were packing food for refugees. Anyway, when war broke out, the Secret Service collected those vehicles for their usage…
That Humvee, in an earlier photo, shows chipped paint and an orange one underneath it. It even had OSCE inscription overpainted on the door. I managed to find a photo

I don’t know what happened to the Humvee of the US troops…

Agree.

:flushed:

I’m not sure which is more mysterious - the above quote or the drones over New Jersey.
I personally helped with, built, and still have GMV sets from these two companies.

I was specifically referring to an M1165 GMV as we were talking about above. You have to put together multiple kits, AM sets, and/or 3D printed parts to build one.

A decade ago I used both the kits in building a couple of my models.

Quality of photos reflects what the digital photo technology was at that time.

They’re fine examples of what can be done with those sets, regardless of what base model HMMWV is used.

I was thinking about the Humvee kits that are currently out. The Tamiya M1025 and m1046 (along with their Academy counterparts) albeit some OOP; they’re still plentiful. The newer Academy M1151 and Brongo M1114 variants are available. Now, ICM of Ukraine released two variants of the M1097A2 H/E HMMWV, which provide a newer platform for customization.

I hope to see more upgrade sets for these two kits. They have a lot of potential, IMO.

For those who are interested - the GMV concept was developed by a friend and co-worker of mine, retired SGM J Bailey from 5th Group. They originally were designed to carry a trailer with two scout dirt bikes, When ODS kicked off, SF was ā€œrelegatedā€ to the Scud hunting role to keep them out of the limelight as SF were still not that popular in some circles. The Scud Busters went on to win fame regardless.
My interpretation of a GMV (just as an SF guy who drove several) is that it was opened in the back to provide the gunners a better field of fire. More storage space was a happy plus, though they were often not laden down nearly as much. It had beefier suspension (as seen in my SOF HMMWV walk arounds) and engine upgrades, which I believe included the extended radiator for desert operations. I’m not sure what makes either of those sets unsuitable for an M1165. Perhaps someone can enlighten us,

The M1165A1 GMV has a completely different rear area with armored side walls. It also has different armor on the sides of the HMMWV and you need the M1165 conversion set as well. There are other smaller parts not included in the above GMV/DUMVEE sets too. Ettore designed all the parts you need to add to the Academy M1151 kit to make one.

Ah, you’re right! That GMV. I didn’t see that anywhere in the thread. I figured we were talking about the 1:1 example the guy wants to replicate. Yes those are on my walk around as well, from 10th Group. In fact I was just there again Friday. Thanks for bringing it up. I’ve worked with Ettore on a few projects - I’m not sure if he used my walk around for this one or not. But since it came up - if anyone wants it, it has walk arounds of at least six different GMV types, including the above one, and MARSOC’s version. JUst PM me - you get them within an hour. Thanks, and once again, you’re right! :grinning:

I really like the new ICM HMMWVs. I used one to build my M998 O/C HMMWV from the NTC in CA. They are very detailed and go together well.

It seems to me that the author of the topic is making a little…joke. He wants to build a Humvee. He is asking for advice. We are ā€˜producing’ and he was supposed to choose a version first so we can advise. The festival goes on and the colleague is silent.

For what it is worth, after reading this discussion and doing a little research of my own, I decided to purchase the Academy kit in post 4 because it is reported to be mostly accurate, a decent build, has plastic tires, is fairly cheap, and looks a whole lot like a HMMWV. This decision may seem frightfully boring but I know almost nothing about these vehicles and have never built one.
