Top Three Interests
German WW2
US WW2
Cold War

Favorite part
Weathering, especially dirtying it up.
Finishing the build phase.
Actually finishing a model in one go. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::joy:

Least Favorite Part
Sink Marks and seams on wheels.
Tracks.
Small, extremely complex subassemblies.

Edit: I decided to reformat my post, since I misinterpreted Wade’s original post.

Interests: 1/35 except figures, helicopters are cool but I have to draw the line somewhere and they take up too much space. 1/72 ships/boats

Best parts:

  1. Seeing the model take shape, sprues getting emptied.
  2. Getting it painted, minimum fuss.
  3. Decals on and into the display cabinet.

Worst part: Removing mold seams/flash. Has to be done but I don’t have to like it …

Edit: Oh yeah, cleaning up and fixing all the other types of molding blemishes (see post above mine, thanks for the reminder  )
Motorisation holes in older Tamiya and Academy kits

I definitely agree with watching it take shape; it is sooo satisfying…

Best Part of the Build
The actual art of the construction. Gluing pieces together.
Having parts seams fit perfectly.
Having a vehicle sit flat when you turn it over on it’s wheels/tracks.
Worst Part of the Build
Airbrushing when the stars are out of alignment (it happens to the best of us).
Screwing up a final weathering step and having to strip it back to bare plastic (decals and all) and start over again.
Trying to paint figures.

Best Part of the Build
Building - I find parts cleanup relaxing.
Watching it all come together.

Worst Part of the Build
Painting - especially white
When puttying/sanding seams that just go away!
Dealing with tiny parts (I’m too old)

I rarely get to the decal stage!!

Top three modeling interests?

  1. Building conjectural vehicles of my own design.
  2. Sculpting conjectural organisms of my own design.
  3. Models that are accurate, easy to build, easy to paint, cheap, include everything in the box, in the right scale, and historically significant. I don’t have religion when it comes to subject.

What’s Best Part of the Build?

  1. Finishing.

What’s the Worst Part of the Build?

  1. Nothing will ever be good enough. You either have this fundamental trait or you do not. In is not something that can be learned, unlearned, turned on, or turned off.
  2. Discovering a major error five minutes after finishing. Naughty words may be exclaimed.
  3. One problem after another, causing the project to drag on for months.
  4. Painting.
  5. Filling because all fillers completely suck.
  6. Teeny tiny parts I can no longer see.

What’s Best Part of the Build?

Doing historical research to ensure the build is as accurate as possible. You always learn something new when doing research.

Actual Assembly of the model.

What’s the Worst Part of the Build?

Weathering - because i am still rather new to using washes, panel accents, chipping, etc… And I am afraid to mess up a rather expensive kit because i messed up the weathering.

The best part for me died decades ago. It was opening up a brand new Monogram kit. We’re talking late sixties here. That dark green styrene had a peculiar odor, not unpleasant, much like sniffing a magic marker. When you broke the shrink wrap on the box your senses told you the adventure was about to begin. I’ve never smelled that smell with any other kits.

That’s a quick way for a kit to end in the “Shelf of Doom”.

Bad fitting kits?

They seldom make it to my shelf of doom, those bastards get dumped as unstarted kits into club raffles at first opportunity.

Wink  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That’s the truth. Although I’ve only ever given up on a couple. I’ve got more GOOD kits sitting on that shelf (I’m ashamed to say a WNW Rumpler). The PM ‘Nesher’ and Airfix Mirage III and original Sea King spring to mind. They became painting guinea pigs. Although I robbed the Sea King of parts I plan on sprucing up an old HH-3 with at some point.

My shelf of doom is mainly full of kits that are good, just halfway finished while i just drop it and take a new kit to make. I seriously have that problem of starting one kit; getting almost done with it, then pick up an new kit and leave that one half-built as well…

What interests me.
Some shiny new thing I don’t have.

The Best Parts
Finding something Cool I like that is available
The hunt for something I like that is unavailable
Planning a build
Researching the kit
Ordering aftermarket items
The kits arrival.

The Worst Parts
Finding the kit parts are damaged or missing.
The carpet monster awakes.
The glue run or fingerprint you discovered.
Painting that requires a lot of intricate masking that you just know will fail.
Very high gloss mirror smooth paint jobs.
Life gets busy and when you return, the interest faded.
Looking at the size of my stash, realizing the reality of me building them all.
