Best Tank That Never Was - Part 5!

Group Build Title: [enter title here] Best Tank That Never Was - Part 5!

Group Build Leader(s): [@ symbol and username of leaders]@barkingdigger

Group Build Description: [enter summary description here]This is a follow-on campaign in the “Best Tank that Never Was” series, and any kit started or proposed for the earlier BTTNW campaigns can be carried on to completion here for an award! From the previous blurbs:

Ever seen a prototype that didn’t quite make it to series production? This campaign is all about those “more than a sketch on an envelope” concepts that for whatever reason failed to make the final hurdle to standard-issue equipment! It can be something already kitted, such as the T29/T30/T32 heavy tanks the US played with at the end of WW2, or something more obscure like the Canadian Skink AA tank or the US T31 demolition tank that require kitbashing or scratchbuilding. Not to mention Maus and other paper panzers (if they got further than a rough sketch, that is!) or indeed many of those odd Soviet beasts like the Objekt 279 “flying saucer” tank. We’ll need to see photos of it in testing or at least as workable factory blueprints (or as part-built captured hulls…) to weed out the more outrageous Rattes etc, as well as some build pics along the way. And it could be a cancelled upgrade to an existing vehicle (such as the 120mm-gunned Leopard 1) rather than a whole-new platform. There will be a badge (eventually!) and extra kudos to those doing more obscure subjects - plenty of backstory is always welcome. And don’t get too hung up on “tank” - I’m sure we can all appreciate wheeled vehicles, APCs, and other battlefield would-be developments as long as they ultimately failed to go into service!

Event Details: (Remember to click “Going” if you want to join the build!)

Completion Award: [add info about possible award badge here - see help threads for more info]

A Note about Awards: The following text is a reminder that in order for people participating and finishing their projects to receive a badge on their forum profile, they will need to provide their account username to the group build leader by the completion date of the build. The leader will then provide this list to the site admin who will bulk award the badges to those users who have finished the group build. If you don’t provide your username or finish the project on the timetable the leader has setup you will not be able to receive an award.

I am in with a T28, T29E3, or Neubaufahrzeug.

So there has to have been at least one built?

It has to have got beyond a crude napkin sketch, but could have failed at the tendering stage where it was an artist’s mock-up with some detailed specs. I have made two of the DIVAD competitors for the M247 Sgt York so far, with the hope of doing the full set of five eventually, and only two of them made it to actual steel - but any of them would qualify. But I draw the line at fantasy like the Ratte…

So Tom, as discussed elsewhere, a continuation of my Dutch Kpz-70 (GVT-70, although within the auspices of a separate topic at the moment), and hopefully one in Bundeswehr service (both of course sort of What-Ifs - I hope they’re still valid; the real thing certainly got built as we well know).

There’s also the possibility of the Black Eagle, just because.

Thanks for running this Tom, such campaigns normally do get me building.

Another MBT70 is always welcome! (Or is that Kpz70?..)

So I guess the E25 is a no go?

Might just be both Tom; I have a cunning plan…

I’m of two minds on the E25. This article (https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/entwicklungsfahrzeug-25-e-25/) points out the lack of info, but says the powertrain was being built, and mentions the existence of drawings. Unless there’s an uproar I’m inclined to allow it as a plausible failed programme rather than a fanciful paper panzer. Besides, the main aim of campaigns is to get us all building stuff!

You allowed me to build an E10 for Best Tank That Never Was - Part 4. It was part of the same program that produced the E25.

Did I? Fair enough then! These E tanks at least were part of a real design programme rather than a mere Fuhrer-fantasy. Can’t wait to see what you make of it.
