Building the 1/16th. Universal Carrier Mk.II

Well I’m starting another one, Here’s hoping I don’t Screw up this one as the instructions are rarher un-clear on some of the parts placement.
This is straight out of the box as I have no references on this Vehicle.

Well back to work.

Watching with interest! I built the Riich Universal Carrier a few years back, so I’m really curious to see how this kit comes together.

Thanks for taking the time to document and share the project with the rest of us!

Really looking forward to following this build Donald, especially as I intend getting both the Mk II, and the Mk I, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:.

Just for your information, From what I have read they are virtually almost identical. Just a few less details and parts for the Mk.1 Hey I could be wrong, but for my money I’ll use it on a different kit.
My money only goes so far. There are a lot of great details for the Puma , and I used some there.
If only I could get some of these companies to donate the parts, to be featured in my builds.
But NO it’ll never happen so I just keep plodding along doing the best that I can with what I have.

Some more on the interior, you have to think ahead and install the parts in order because some go under others.

I’m finished for today, I’ll be working on the rear drive axle next.

Some more finished.

The Drive Axle ends, thew are designed to rotate but if they don’t it’s no big deal. Just don’t glue the Sprocket.

My next mistake was I followed the instructions and installed the axle before the rear panel. (DON’T)
Once the Axle is installed it is very difficult to install the Pannel.

The Fenders are another matter and it’s hard to get a good seam joint on the inside. Don’t install the Bogies until later as they could get broken off doing the seam.

Of course you won’t see most of the exhaust system as it’ll be behind another armor plate.

This is what the interior seams should look like.

I’m finished for now.

Now for the Engine Cover, Installing an Engine is a waste of time unless you are going to make removable side panels for the Engine as none of it can be seen.
Ok here’s the Cover.

I’ll be working on the Drivers Seat, it looks like I’ll need 3 or 4 hands for this. (Very Complicated)

The Drivers seat is very tricky to do but possible. I almost gave up on this build, but seceded in doing it.

There’s still a cover to be installed between the seats covering the Rods.

A lovely amount of detail, so much of it is going to end up hidden too. Following your build and points eagerly.

A little work on the rearend today.
the Tow Hookup is optional.
There’s a slight mistake, a small tab on the ends that have no slot even if the instructions say so (See Pic. #41)

There’s a lot of unseen detail , and some of the instructions are very ambiguous an exactly some of the parts go.
I’m probably not going to use the Radio, It just doesn’t look right and where exactly does it go ? I think I’ll make this into a supply Tractor.

Not sure if this has been mentioned on the kitmaker site previously, but Gecko has announced a future release of a Ford V8 engine for the Mk 1 and Mk 2 universal carrier 1/16th kits. Kit # GEC-16GM0017 ( for the engine )

It has already been on sale Andy had it for $16.99 and it is sold out.
You could put it in this kit, but you would never see it again.

Thanks
I have it painted and the road wheels installed.
It was very very hard to get the darn things level and lined up.
This kit is definitely not for beginners, Heck I don’t want to think about doing another.

I;ll be working on the Track next Fun Fun Fun just a lot of itsy bitsy parts.

Hope you’re feeling better Donald.

Your informative build is going to be invaluable, and the whole vehicle is really starting to come together, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:.

It is a shame that they didn’t include decals for the instrument panel, :unamused:.
