Camo for the M114 questions

Hi all
My next project is the M114 A1E1 by Takom. The color references are in the AK range only.
So I would like to know if there is any suitable references in the Tamiya range for the US green in the mid 70s? I thought of XF-58 Olive Green.

Second question is about the 4 tone camo schemes. Are there any top views available? Takom only give the front, rear and sides views for it. I find it pretty attractive compared to the dull plain green but would like to be as accurate as possible.

TIA
Olivier

Thank you Gary. It’s a good start. Just need to find a picture of the left side.
It’s a pity JC didn’t share the end of his paint job on the site.

Salu Olivier, I woundn´t worry to much about the pattern, US Army issued no pattern for MASSTER camo. ( I´m I right?). So you can “let your imagination flow”. I photographed a M114 A1 in MASSTER as a hard target at Illesheim range a few years ago. But I didn take any topshots.

No, there were some camo pattern for the M114, but so rough, that many, many different ideas of it were out there.

Somebody posted these patterns in an old thread.

Probably me. This is the “official” pattern which was originally created in 1966, not used, and then dusted off in 1973 when MASSTER was implemented.

And while this is the “official” pattern, since the outlines were hand drawn on the vehicle with chalk a number corresponding to the correct paint added, and then the entire vehicle painted, by hand, ALL across the entire collection of vehicles in Germany, I can guarantee that they all did NOT look exactly like this.

And since the real vehicles were painted AND touched up, BY HAND, I would submit that the most accurate way to do a MASSTER vehicle is to paint it by hand, because the brush strokes are part of the original despite what any model show judge might say.

Since we are talking about M114 colors-what are the colors for a Vietnamese camouflaged 114? Did Takom get the colors right?

Thank you all for the inputs. So I’ll probably stick with Takom proposals for the camo schemes (2 different ones). I just need to find the appropriate colors.

I understand that you’re building an -E1 version of the M114 but for anyone choosing to build an ARVN AFV as I did this is what the camo colors would look like, Earth Red over Olive Drab . . .

This is the Accurate Armor resin kit btw, best of luck on your kit build Olivier @Bison126

What companies paint did you use?

AK lacquers for the exterior, otherwise MM enamels for the interior and weathering/washes.

The paint chips above are the Federal Standard colors available as would be specified for European Woodland camo, however the red brown I used is AK Rotbraun - RC067 which is no longer available, it is essentially a dark rust color, the paint chip below is from AK’s site and shows the alternate paint makers selections.

I hope this helps, bear in mind I didn’t have a specific color reference when I built my ARVN track and consider also the South Vietnamese were rather strong willed when making decisions about how to run their army, meaning they didn’t always follow USARV doctrine for paint color selection.

Hi all
I’ve just started to paint my M114 following Takom instructions.
On the color plates it seems that the cannon main body is painted in the camo scheme. Is this correct?
The way the cannon is cast makes it hard to see the cannon cradle.

Merci.
It’s currently plain green. It would have been better to keep it in the Masster camo.
However I tend not to trust too much the vehicles in museums.
