Centurions: Fist of the Empire

Plentiful kit! I am waiting for the Panzerart wheels…

Looking forward to it, Nikos!

Hi all
so started my first centurion and its a 73 Shot Kal on a mk3 chassis and turret.
I have built the suspension and have added the weld marks AFV club missed off the rear plate.

I also added the welds where the extension has been added to the hull these will possible not show once kit is built but I wanted to fit them

I used red plastic rod that once stuck down with plastic welds acts and forms a shape of a weld mark.

Ossie is that just red Evergreen (or equivalent)? Or is that something meant for weld beads? Yours look nice and that looks much easier than putty or stretching sprue.

hi canmedic
so it is old pattern makers trick I was taught when I was building masters.
this is it and melts with plastic weld. can use more then one piece to create a bigger weld seam

if using evergreen you have more choices has you have round and quarter round , just mark it with a rough file or hack saw plate and then cut and stick in place can be quicker then using milli putty .

Ok, more questions and pondering…

I think by what the Cent experts have said here, this Amusing Hobby boxing for a Shot Kal Alef leaves a bit to be desired. It seems it’s a bit off in various ways, but it is building up nicely and I can’t really complain, but I don’t think I will be finishing it as a true historical version version from the 73 battle of the V of T’s.

Does anyone know what should go into the recessed hole to in between the main gun and the Co-ax ? Should I fill it ? I can’t find any reference pics of it all ??

Also, in the next pic, I have put the kit part for the barrel in the Co-ax hole, but it looks really small ? What cal was used for the co ax ?

Also, I’ve chinned off the searchlight idea being mounted, I’m going to have it stowed, and fit the .50 … It may not be correct, but I like it, and I will do the trigger mech that the Comd used as Nikos informed me about …

Coax is a .30 Browning, that said, that looks like no barrel profile I’ve ever seen. The hole between the main gun and the coax is for a .50 ranging gun.

Cheers Don. So unless anyone says different, I’m filling the ranging hole and blending that into the mantlet and going to use a spare .30 barrel for the co-ax :+1:

Wasn’t the original coax a Besa MG? The conical muzzle would be appropriate even though not fully correct.
I don’t know if IDF used the Besa as coax.

Olivier

True, it us supposed to be a Besa but it was not used by the IDF if I am not mistaken.

Unfortunately John is using the wrong type of mantlet cover, the canvas should be covering the mg bulge as well

Damn you Nikos … Lol… :sob: Only kidding… I will have to rectify that now as I can’t let it sit there knowing it’s wrong… Now where is my rasp file lol …

Is there actually a kit out there that does an IDF Shot of any Mk that you can build out the box without any surgery or changes ?
I noticed on my sprues there are parts I’m not going to use , but are for other variants of Shots …

Sorry, I am trying not to be pedantic with other people’s builds but I get carried away sometimes.

You can always just use some white glue or liquid putty over the existing bulge and correct the mantlet cover.

The Gimel and Dalet are pretty close but the material supplied for the mantlet cover is hard to use.

The early Shot can be built OOB with just some attention to details using photo reference

I was only joking :smile:…but I will try to make it look better for mostly my benefit :+1::+1:

How’s this Nikos @gtdeath13

Before.

And after.

Razor sawed off the co-ax part, then just used general internal household filler, a wet cotton bud to shape it.
Once it’s dry I will scribe in the folds a bit neater in the canvas and also on top is the new barrel for the co-ax.

You’re not. Although BESA MGs were used by the IDF during the early years, by the time the Shot’s came around, they were replaced with 0.3 cals.

Oh joy! Another inaccuracy in this kit lol. I can’t fathom why DEF would do a mantlet cover if they aren’t gonna do it right. I think I’ll leave mine, getting tired of fixing issues on this one
