Chieftain Mk11 Stillbrew

I actually quite enjoy adding the little bits and pieces that I know should be there, and in all honesty, most are pretty easy and simple to do. On some things, like the gunners sight cover bracket, I can see I did it a bit wrong and can go back and do a simple fix. If it wasnt a personal ride, I may not go into as much extra detailing… but I like to add as much as possible

I agree, when it’s personal, I find it triggers so much more that you’d forgotten, and then some. My Div HQ Land Rover, kitted out some years ago, jolted many more memories as I built it which was quite strange in a way.

Yes, that rover had some nice extra detailing added to it … the personal bits and pieces

Just for info John, it came to grief - fell off a shelf. I nearly cried!

It’s probably repairable but I haven’t the heart at the moment.

It would be worth the effort to do, even as a tinkering repair project

And you managed to get superb results with all the extra details. :+1:

Some more work done …

Added the electric cables that will go into the rear of the MBSGDs…

Fitted the gunners sight hood with it’s reworked door. Also fitted the MRS light source box

And the electric cable that connects them

And 2 new blocks in white strip squares

They need holes drilled in the middle of them.

And the lower part of the Comd cupola is now in with some PE. Will add the blades after painting.

More incredible detailed work John. This one is destined to be a real stunner!

A quick (unrelated) question. I’m down in Padstow for a weeks break with my wife. She’s got a pretty full sightseeing agenda, but I wondered if there were any hobby stores close by, say in Newquay?

Cheers

No nothing mate … Sadly down here we are very few and far between for model related shops…
Malletts in Truro have a limited but decent stock of some kits, Antics in Plymouth is a dedicated model shop, but both a bit of a drive from Padstow… Trago Mills bizarre store on the way to plymouth (A38) has a limited supply of various revell kits …

Terry, you may recall I visited Cornwall last year and posted my experiences somewhere; if you’ve time I’d recommend Bodmin for the military museum. Just a thought. It might soothe the lack of plastic.

MBSGD wiring going into the back

Cut off the antenna mount on top of the ABA’s as they are so fiddly to drill out and drilled the holes, used a .7mm bit, which is a bit oversize but the only plastic rod I have over .5 is a .7mm length so needs must …

Then drilled out the rod which will become the antenna mount

Cut 2 lengths and glued those in the ABAs…

They are a bit oversized, but I will try sanding the circumference down a bit once they have dried. Also have to make the securing locks as well.

These PE bits of joy are for the NBC pack …

This PE lark kills me …

Started the mounting brackets on top of the NBC pack

Although the PE needs some work, it’s unavoidable as there isn’t a kit option, and this was fitted to Mk11’s.

Where the indents are for the poles, they should have more of a pronounced lip.

So I cut some PE fret and annealed that , then bent it into the rough shape and CA’d it into the 4 recesses.

Then with the upper locking plate fitted.

Cut 2 different sizes of rod, and added those for the securing knob on both and also a length of rod on the inside as the threaded rod.

After a good friend sent me a ton of Mk11 images, I was able to confirm that most of the IR probe mount was removed on these, but was still fitted to a lot of Mk10’s.

Nows it’s there …

Now it isn’t

The surgery looks a lot worse than it actually is… … Bit of clean up and it will be fine …

I went to uni down there and know Antics in Plymouth and Trago Mills very well.

That Antics store is largely responsible for me getting into 1:400 die cast as well. I spent a fortune in there over the four years I lived there. There used to be a really good model shop on the other side of the centre, opposite Ivor Dewdneys if that makes sense, think it was on Cornwall St. Don’t suppose it is still there?

Only one here now is Antics which is on Cornwall St. Many moons ago there used to be another open fronted shop that sold models down near the indoor market, but thats going back donkeys years, - That one has long gone.
