Was going to finish off assembly of the Comd cupola…but realised it needed a few things doing before I could carry on.
When I did the MG mount, I also took apart the Comd sight cover and search light to detail those. And I need to reattach the search light but with added strength.
So, drilled a .8mm hole in the side of the sight cover
OK? That little assembly was a model in it’s own right and turned out incredible! You are an excellent modeler John and you are too humble.
By the way, do you have a lens for that spotlight, and for the headlights? I would be happy to send you some.
Cheers mate … thats very kind to say so … and contrary to popular belief … flattery will get you everywhere lol !!!
Ref the lens, I am good on that front Matt though thanks for the offer . They are all on the sprue still. Wont add them till after painting and the Comd Spotlight will be having the IR finish in semi gloss black with a hint of red added.
Hell’s bells John, you must have the patience of a saint, and the hands of a surgeon, , that is some amazing and fiddly work, but the results speak for themselves…simply outstanding mate, .
Cheers mate … to be honest … the patience has been wearing a bit thin on a few areas … but I like the results thus far and I really like how a bit of PE is just so good at enhancing the kit part …
Thanks Olivier, I’m really liking your Oliphant build as well … some great work going on there.
Fitted the Comd sight after masking up the external vision face.
Then fitted the sight cover and search light, then fitted the scratch built MG mount …
Thought I’d better bite the bullet and at least make a start on the tracks… Indi link, made up with the link and a track pad.
Here’s the first issue… Not sure why they need to be 2 parts… I’m sure they could be done as one part which would be so much nicer …
Now, as the boz plates are being fitted to this one, I’m actually thinking of only adding pads to say 50 to 60 links (the visible ones) … Out of sight - out of mind…
Another issue, sort of… The links fit together fine, and if you were mega mega careful, they could work without glue, but I think if they are moved to much, they will just break apart. When pushed together, there is a snug fit, but nothing clicks them in place … So at some point some AK extra thin will be required…
Pads, dish with 50 complete links and pads, and just links in a pile …
Also, while I remember, I was going to add the PE part they supply (voyager) to show the barrel rifling…
But, the bit is shaped like a parallelogram so when you bend it, it never has a flat edge…it’s always angled… So I had to cut up vertical from one corner, so that once bent round, you have the flat edge… As seen below
I just made enough for what’s on show, long hooked around drive sprocket, for looking up behind the baz plate on show, and around the idler. Then glue once finished weathering / painting.
I think they want you to roll it so that the front edge is straight, that way the rifling is at an angle. that also hides the joint in the twisted rifling.
