Chieftain Mk11 Stillbrew

Used to get these from the Canex in the UNPA. Not brilliant but cheap as chips.

Few more bits on

Splash plate

Dvrs hatch locking bar

And decided to get the hull together…

Will try and get this primed along with the wheels this weekend… Few more bits to do on the hull then I may see how the tracks go together then start on the turret …

Which is basically the entire plot of the classic “Smokey and the Bandit!”

Rear hull plate and back bins on.

All the very fragile PE & lenses will be left off until painting time.

J- PE work is nuts. You’re a much braver man than I. And just for fun, I used to drive a truck in the tri-state area of the lower mid-west (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky) and would get occasional runs into St Louis MO, where I would buy up cases of Coors, boogie back to Illinois and sell them to my college buddies. Does that mean I was a boot-legger?
Now I’m into cheap French wines and Texas whiskies. Hmmm…

We get it here in Australia. We also get the Bulmers Irish Cider under the label Magner’s, which they do everywhere but Eire due to naming rights.

Oakey doke… Some chieftain time …

Going to get the rest of the smaller delicate PE onto the hull, deck handles etc, then make a start on the turret. That will need some fettling so the access door handles and tie down loops look better than the moulded on stuff …

Looking outstanding John!

Thanks Matt…

Only got to do a few bits… A couple of the hull hooks on either side, plus the gearbox deck handles.

Used the kit PE for this, but was time consuming as I added the small pivot mounts with cut down wire, and glueing those all in place…

Engine deck handles tomorrow, then the turret phase…

Onto the turret now …

Nice work John, nice work.

Went out of sync with the turret. Firstly, sliced of the moulded on tie downs and hideous metadyne cover handles on the turret roof.
Then secured the LH side of the turret to the rest.

Instructions would have you do this 6 steps further on, after you almost completely add all the turret detail including the RH rear basket and Comds bin and the barrel…
That made no sense to me and there’s no logical reason to wait that long, so it’s now been added… And it firms the turret up giving a nice solid base to work on …

Thanks Brian.,… I’m not over enamored with the deck lifting handles. On first glance they look nice, but then they look to flat … They lack that 3 dimensional roundness of the real ones . I may try and delicately add some quick drying CA glue the visible surface on the flat handles to try and add some substance to them…

If you want to thicken them up, and I use the same for my 2D foliage branches, try Mr Dissolved Putty; that said, PVA glue may also do the trick.

Another option would be lead wire, bent to the same pattern.

I think this is a good option.
