wow that’s an awesome build. I would love to find a DD tank in 1/35 scale what markings do you plan for the kit.

Nice Shermie Jesper. Must be one of Heller’s better ones…
Some small progress here. Finally got the top coat of paint down and some ‘time on the tools’. Fruil Tracks have been primed and sprayed.
Thanks for the comments, guys.
@Johnnych01, the wading trunks seem to be free standing. Actually a bit surprising they were strong enough against waves.
@TinyDog01, I am building the tank on the instructions in the background of the pictures.
Nice progress Jesper, Peter and TinyDog, builds are looking very nice indeed,
.
I know Jesper said the Heller Sherman had no markings for a British vehicle, but does anyone know if the type of Sherman depicted would have been used by the British/Canadians?

Hi all,
Been a couple of weeks since last post, mainly due to any progress being a bit boring to update you on,
.
I’ve mainly been reshaping the sand dunes as I wasn’t happy with the original,
.
I’m also having to change the contour of the rise up to the breached wall. One of the issues with the IBG armour kits is that the wheels/track are basically one piece, so no adjustment is possible to cope with uneven ground,
.
I’ve also had a go at adding some barbed wire obstacles using stretched sprue…thanks for the idea Ryan,
. In 1/72nd it’s fiddly, but hopefully it’ll be okay…anyone have any suggestions for coiled barbed wire?
Cheers,
,
G
I think you’ve done a tremendous job with the stretched sprue. I think at 1/72 with naked eye you probably couldn’t pick out the difference?
I’ve dabbled with Small Scale in the past; one of my D Day dios utilised endless lengths of fusewire just coiled around something of a suitable diameter - I may even have used a wooden spoon handle. I then sprayed it dark brown/rust. Any attempt at barbs is pointless in this scale and would look vastly overscale I think. I feel that if you want endless coils of the density that the Germans put up, then coiled fusewire is just about the only way to go.
Great job G. That looks amazing.
I can sense another epic A4 build coming along here G … barb wire defences look great as do the terrain changes you have made … very nice work matey.
Lovely update Jesper and the wader is looking great. Really stands out with the deep ford trunks on. Well done mate.
Thanks, Johnny. It is a rather unique looking Sherman.
I have researched the wading tanks a bit and it seems some of them kept the wading “trunks” on for quite some time. Surprising to me.
I have not decided how to weather it yet. If I model it just out of the surf (or in it) the Sherman would be very clean I guess. Some days after d-day it would already be pretty dirty.
Just a reminder for all participants… Just under 2 weeks on this campaign… If anyone needs extra time, I’m happy to get an admin to give it a 2 week extension from the 5th of June.
I planned, but sadly never started. Just too much going on. Been fun watching the other builds though.
As I have the necessary kit and decals, I do still intend to do the US Navy spotter Spitfire at a later date.
I could use an extension I’m finally getting some weekends off and could finish with an extension.
thanks TinyDog01
Another Campaign i slept on. ![]()
Been so busy with other projects and campaigns; plus life in general.
Maybe next year.
No probs TD, I will get an admin to sort that near the end date ![]()
Its easy to miss campaigns Reynier, this place gets a bit busy sometimes. ![]()
I’m almost finished with my DUKW dio, but still need to do the sand with my go-to Polyfilla. It might be ready by the deadline…
I will get in contact with Matt over the next few days and get an extension put on ![]()
