I’m still waiting for my 251/3 and aftermarkets to come in.
Have amended the rules to allow for up to 50% builds/Dio’s to be entered. Would rather see a kit built than left on the shelf… Main rule still applies… Whatever it is MUST have been used on the 6th of June…
Looking forward to this one!
Halfway through my backlog of shelf queens and this campaign is prime motivation to wrap the remainder.
In that case I may resurrect a DUKW build that I started 4 years ago in a “Build a photo” campaign!
The plan was (is!) to model the scene, complete with beach. Still a ways to go on it yet…
I remember it well Tom … its definitely a go from me
Cool - I may actually finish it this time! (I know, famous last words…)
Morning fellow D Day participants …
Can one of the Admins please make the campaign active at 0800 please … Many thanks …
Lets hit the beaches … stay low – move fast …
Defend the Pill Boxes … aim well, every shot counts …
I am going to drive within a mile of that site Saturday on my way to pick up my daughter from Camp Mikell just NE of Toccoa.
Before we kick it all off, may I ask a moment of contemplation in memory of all who fought, suffered and died on this day 80 years ago.
Well said !
i think you should’ve started it at 00:26 to mark the British gliders landing at the bridges over the river Orne and Caen canal.
incidentally it’s my younger sister’s birthday today as well, happy D-Day Fiona.
And the Battle of Normandy. On a memorial programme last night on the BBC, James Holland pointed out that over the 77 days of the campaign, average casualties (on all sides) exceeded that of the battles of The Somme, Verdun, and Passchendaele. For example, the 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division didn’t start landing until 14th June and wasn’t complete until the 24th, going into action two days later, Operation Epsom commencing 26th June. Between then and 2 July they suffered some 2,700 casualties approximating to one third of their infantry strength (notably, the 2nd Bn. of The Glasgow Highlanders lost around a quarter of it’s infantry and one-third of it’s officers on the first day), roughly a quarter of the total casualties suffered by the Division before the cessation of hostilities in Europe.

Campaign active! Hit the beach!
I shamefully have to admit that progress has been much more then I initially thought it was.
While I said I had done the sand it turns out that I already went ahead with the figures too. I feel like I am cheating here. This project is so old that the basic paint has started to wear off.
Not a problem… Carry on Ron would rather see it finished ok
Ron, before you get too far, I believe your “Rommel’s Asparagus” beach obstacle is backwards. From photos, the tip of such structures faced the sea.
@Johnnych01 Will do. Thanks!
@SSGToms I know. I (think I) chose this setup, back in 2010, for esthetical reasons. It made more sense, given the position of the figures, as these are standard Masterbox.
Nothing to do with the campaign chaps, but I just thought you might like to note that it was commemorated today in my small Wiltshire town appropriately:
Excuse the appearance of the drink; my esteemed colleagues thought it would be a good laugh to decorate my drink of choice - a perfectly sound Belgian blonde beer - with accoutrements. Swine that they are.
Likable chaps you’re colleagues are.
