Death of an airbrush

is there more than one version of the eclipse, i keep finding them with different letters after their title?

The standard eclipse is siphon feed, the HP-CS is gravity. I got a HP-CS to use for finer work than my Paasche. I haven’t used it in a kit yet but did some test spraying and it’s lovely! Nice solid feel and smooth action

HP-CS is gravity fed,at least mine is.

D’oh! Thanks for catching that typo. You are correct the HP-CS is gravity feed

well i don’t need to do fine work, no pencil lines for me thank god. so if i go down the iwata eclipse road which one would be ideal for me?

Try the airbrush you found before buying something new.

It looks like a variant of the Sparmax GP-35 but that is a side feed airbrush while this, presumably a more or less unlicensed “copy”, has a top or gravity feed.
Gravity acting straight down or gravity acting through a 90 degree bend could be more or less the same unless the user has very special needs.

The “copy”:

There seems to be a quick coupler in the box which seems to be missing in your box, the hose is also slightly different.
Should be quite sufficient for area coverage.
Definitely try it before forking out cash for another airbrush

Any old sneakers lying around? You can test it like one of the reviewers in that link did: :astonished:

Now call me a cynic, but 2 reviews, both on the same day, both with a first name and Initial as their login name and one using the proprietary paint from the company that is selling the things in the link… seems a tad suss to me…

They should have done a German ambush camo instead of chicken out with a plain yellow …

Even the El Cheapo airbrushes should manage an area coverage.
Fine lines is another thing though …

I started with a cheap copy of a Badger 150, nice wooden box though.
I think the “brand” name was Kager, the only product problems I had was that the rubber O-ring went hard, brittle and untight after a while (Badgers have teflon rings). The other problems were caused by me, reaming out the nozzles with a hardened metal reamer … live and learn, live and learn.
It sucked at fine lines but all I needed back then was area coverage, using a putt-putt-putt compressor without a tank didn’t improve fine line performance either, all I got was a row of little dots …

I’m sure this AB is capable of lines too.

Sorry David, I’m sure it will be great…

This one

Capable of fine work but also sprays 50mm wide. Almost all airbrushes are capable of fine work with correct paint consistency, air pressure and distance from subject, not to mention user ability!

But as Robin says, give the stun gun a shot first, you never know!

Nothing I’ve tried but Martin Kovac (Night Shift on YouTube) uses his airbrush (I don’t know which brand/model) for many things… even very localized shading.

As the old joke goes, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” “Practice, practice, practice…”

I’m interested in seeing how that AB performs, mainly because it’s an odd configuration compared to most with a button trigger on top. Who knows? It might be the wave of the future!

Grex also have a pistol grip airbrush, Tritium TS3 & TG3

There is also this contraption (and presumably others)

Iwata Neo HP-TRN2
Sparmax GP-35, GP-50

I do get the impression that the pistol grips are single action …

yeah I’ve watched some of his videos and he does some amazing work.

You’ll need enamels or something else that doesn’t dissolve in water,
… considering the Scottish weather …

Don’t paint brick. It will need constant repainting. Leave it natural.
